I thought I'd share these videos of the awesome Cartier Railway log trains: a daily unit train of freshly cut timber! This just begs to be modeled!

Is this the same Cartier Railway that hauled iron ore in Quebec and Labrador?

Sure is. While it may not run as frequently as it once did, the log trains are still present on the Cartier. This shot by Dannick Fournier was taken earlier this month and shows an empty log train being led by an SD70ACe. https://flic.kr/p/2jH2c5F

Dannick has plenty of good shots of the Cartier, QNS&L, and Arnaud Railway: https://www.flickr.com/photos/railfandan/

Lorence Toutant also has some good ore hauler shots seen here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/65643258@N06/albums/72157636103485743

From 2007. Are those Alc/Mlws still running?

Unfortunately not anymore. Some did go to the Western New York and Pennsylvania, but they were recently sidelined for AC6000's.

Now the Cartier has 17 AC4400CW's, 2 ES44AC's, and 5 SD70ACe's.

I’d be curious to know what their grade profile is like. It must be a “loads downhill” move with the one engine?  That’s an impressive and unique train for sure.

Today, two of the 636's made what may be their last run.  On Friday, WNYP 637 and 638 (I apologize, I do not know their former numbers) pulled 127 empty hoppers from storage to be handed off to NS at Meadville, PA.  Today they made their way back to Olean, NY, and will probably be soon retired.  From what I've heard, they were leading the train.  That said, I have no real knowledge of their future.

A lot of the background for the WNY&P and LA&L (They are basically the same company) ALCos can be found here: https://scotlawrence.github.io/NYalcos/index.html

WNYP 637 started life as CN 2312 and then Cartier 47 (and a few others before getting to the WNY&P)
WNYP 638 started life as Cartier 75 (and a few others before getting to the WNY&P)

Scott Lawrence hasn't up dated the page in about a year so the actual in service and out of service portions might be out of date with some of them.  It's going to be sad when all the six motor ALCos are retired.  At least they're keeping the four motor ones around for now.

I found another page by Scott Lawrence with a little more information. Scroll to the bottom for the latest (Still only current to June 2019):  https://scotlawrence.github.io/NYalcos/NYalco-movements.html
