I don't  mean to be a smart [a$$]hat, but if, given the knowledge available on this web site,  it so difficult to determiner the exact roof, why not just chose whatever you can find or like.  Who is going to give you a hard time ?

It is, after all, your railroad ....

Looks like a Stanray diagonal panel roof from the side profile, although a better photo angle would confirm it.  ExactRail offers the part in N:  #EN90301.

They also offer the Pullman bowtie panel roof and the X-panel roof.

I picked up an Xactrail X roof a while back for my DODX caboose project .. that one ran a bit wide (or the atlas caboose was narrow :) )

A better roof shot:

I used Athearn plug door PS1s to model these cars, ignoring the incorrect ends and roof

If my recollection is correct, EXR diagonal panel roof has overhanging eaves.   The prototype does not.

It's not difficult to determine.   It's a flush diagonal panel roof.

If I am remembering correctly this series of cars was assembled by Magor car company. I am 150 miles away from my reference material and will check when I get home. I am using the Atlas FGE car to model a half dozen of these as close enough to look ok.

I have ordered some roofs from ExactRail and I have just ordered an Atlas ACF Precision Design Boxcar which looks to have the right, or at least close enough to start with, ends roof and underframe. Sides and door should be a simple enough scratchbuild.

The Magor cars were painted like the car on the left, if that helps clear things up. To model both of these I used Athearn PS1 plug doors, not 100% correct by any means, but they fill the gap nicely, and are fairly close from the side.

Magor rebuilt with sliding door and oddball paint

I think I'm experiencing a drought of a different sort. I have money, time and space for more modeling, but I just haven't had the "gumption" to get any modeling done. The only models I've worked on in the past year have been a half dozen HO scale automobiles of my "dream cars". It comes and goes, as they say.

Have you thought about at least temporarily trying to model a different era or railroad? Doing a couple T Trak modules restarted my modelling drive recently.

I've been trying to pinpoint the cause, and though I can think of lots of small reasons, I can't say any one reason is the cause. I have a small B&M based urban switching layout, although my main interest is the Maine Central. I'm fairly proficient at modeling anything I need, from Claremont and Concord 44 tonners, to Conrail C628s. I want to finish my current layout, and I also want to start fresh with a more rural themed layout. Basically I feel indecisive, and or/uninspired.. My era has long been chosen,(about 1980) but I bounce around with roadnames. I've lived and traveled out west, but still have no interest in modeling the area. I've had modeling slumps before, but this one is different, as I have space and time, and those have been issues for me in the past. I have a small-medium sized n scale collection, but I don't want to be a collector, I prefer to actually use and enjoy my stuff, collector values be damned.
I wish I had an answer, I really do. It's actually a bit depressing, as I grew up with an around-the-basement HO empire, and have always been into real and model trains. I've even worked for a real tourist RR. I've had the same 2 dozen half finished projects staring at me for the past year- year and a half, with no desire to even just pick away at them. Am I broken? :?

Anyways, I didn't mean to hijack the boxcar thread with my modeling woes

Nope. Sometimes you just need to go where your inspiration takes you.

It's part of the reason I've embraced @seusscaboose s JFRTM mantra. Don't stress, get over yourself, and do what's fun. If that's a board by board replica of a certain culvert? Build the culvert. If it's throwing down a bunch of snap track on a door and reliving your youth? Go for it.
