Steve, as far as photo etch....I'm still not sure I want to go that route. I have built close to 20 JNJ resin wagontops for people before Fox Valley eventually came out with a RTR version. The photo etch set on the JNJ was excellent but I still couldn't get over flat stock representing round bar. After the first kit or two I started bending all my own grabs. I only used the photo etch for the end rails.

I will play with dimples on the I-5 as I get closer to a test print. Might even create a bending jig. I have an idea for tool that could be as simple as stick wire in and squeeze to form what you need.

Here is another one...forgot to print the sunshades on this one, future prints will have them. There is also a 4 window version. There is photo evidence of both variations created from I-1's. The C-242 even has 2 variations it's self. The original version above and a modernized/updated version with wide porches and 19' truck centers vs. the 15' truck centers shown.

The 19' floor is next because it will help create a modernized I-1 and 1-5. It may take some trial and error for truck clearance.

You could try designing a wire bending tool to print with the model. It can lend to very consistent wire bends. I have had great success with them. They can even be used as a soldering jig.

I bought a Xuron # 410A.  The guy in the hobby store showed me several different sprue cutters.  For some reason, he was trying to push what he called "the cheapest one".  I do not know why.  He had several brands that I did not revcognise, but the only Xuron that he had was the #410A.  As I know Xuron from having its other tools, and liking them, I picked the Xuron.

Is the #410A allright to use?

I plan to use the foam cutter wire from Woodland Scenics for the railings not included in the kit.  It was recommended to me for the PRR Trainfone antennas before Bowser actually issued the kits for the cabooses.  Gold Medal had the stanchions, so I bought a couple and asked the guy at the hobby store what he might recommend for the antenna.  He recommended that and it worked well.  I also used it on a LL FA with the Gold Medal stanchions.  It worked well for that.

Thank you in advance.

Lee,
Are these going to be B&O or your home road?

I just noticed that you need to do a little more cleanup on the supports under the porch roof on the body. Just a swipe of a sanding stick should clean the nubs off. I think there may be a couple on the floor also.

Somewhere between opening the box a few months ago and the paint booth, the fine grabs at the tops of the ladders disappeared.  It probably doesn't matter, because odds are I would have broken them anyway.

But here it is assembled.  I did clean up the sprue nubs, and will splash a light coat of paint on the assembly prior to decals.
Which will be B&O @SkipGear

I'll have see if I can patch up the other one for service on the Laurel Valley...

Thanks again for your efforts.

It's imperative that the paint shop crew have all the necessary tools for the job...

It may have led to laying those stencils off center to the left, in relation to the cupola.   ;)

Here it is functionally complete.

I have to decide whether I'll repair the grabs at the tops of the ladders.  I probably will one of these days... :|
