I think this bay listing is an early Kato F3 and I might want it  :D:

Kato never offered that NYC scheme, so it's not a factory paint job.
One of the horns is missing.
I'd pass on it.

I asked the seller if he could send a photo of the underside.
So at least the mech is Kato.
Did someone else made such a body? I don't think it's LL...

This just came to my mind as a general question....
These raised fan housings, are they an indicator for a F3?

The case isn't for an F unit, so it's not the original case.

If you zoom into the nose shot, it looks like a decal with a bump in it. So it's probably not a factory paint job either.

The paint is also flat. No manufacturer I know of ever used a flat finish on their models. It is usually semi gloss or satin (not flat).  Another vote for a custom paint job (or someone sprayed Dulcote over factory paint).

But of the price remains at 29 Euros, that is not a bad price to pay for a Kato mechanism.

They weren't built with raised fans...but they could end up with one afterwards...

The main thing to pay attention to is the sides.

Kato model has chicken wire between the portholes, which makes it a Phase II F3 (early had high fans, late had low fans)   The Phase I F3 is identical to Kato's F2 with three side portholes.

Here's an example of an early Phase II F3 (caption is wrong) that had two of the high fans replaced



Conversely, here's a F5 (same carbody as Phase IV F3) that had two low fans replaced with high fans:
