Overall I'd have to say it's kind of crappy construction...

C'mon! I don't find it crappy at all.

Q: Since you have that board on top of the foam it will be kind of flat. I understand that is part of what you are after, but not even a drainage ditch or slightest slope?

Not really.  I would like to add something like a small, low trestle, but keeping it simple is a higher priority goal for me.  Trees and perhaps a few silo-like structures will be the vertical elements.
