Your technique and execution is spectacular, it's just that the colors may not necessarily be right?
Check out the War World Scenics website.
They have some unique static grass colors and heights or lengths of fiber.

I've got many of them and I'd be happy to apply some on something to give you some idea of what they look like.

Winter.  White foam panels.  A couple of drifts.  You wouldn't even need trains.

But seriously, folks.

I'd vote for late summer, early fall.  It would give you an excuse to model a schmaltzy tourist train to simulate the modern day fate of the Colorado Narrow Gauge when you exhibit at train shows whenever they resume.  You ARE still and exhibitionist, aren't you?

Of course, you could also take into consideration the traffic levels you want to simulate.  Was there a season that provides for more interesting operations?  Later in the fall does home heating fuel start to roll in?  Are there harvests and herds to move late in the summer?  Would lumber see an uptick during the summer building months?  Since you're gradually evolving into an operations nerd, these would be important things to keep in mind when deciding what season to model.

I plan on modeling the fall season on my RGS as well, but only for a single reason, the fall stock rush.  You did the fall season on your RGS and did a fantastic job.  I spent years deer hunting in the Sierra mountains of Nevada and the Wasatch mountains of Utah (shot a couple of deer over the state line fence in Idaho too but don't tell anyone) during the fall time which are very similar to the mountains in Colorado so I know what fall in Colorado should look like.  As there is no operational need to model a specific season on the Midland, I'd go with the late spring/early summer.

Conflicted, eh? Well I love the golden colors of autumn, but how many weeks/days a year are they ablaze with gold? And not all at one episode depending on elevation....  ay e doing the more common and natural is the way to go.

Wild West Scale Models Miner's Supply.  I'd built this kit before for CMRy v 1.0 but I didn't do it all that well and it didn't survive transplant...so it was a good excuse for a do-over:





My Campbell stamp mill came with grossly-overscaled real metal roofing which I just replaced with scale (27"-wide) pressed paper corrugated roofing from Wild West Scale Models that I weathered with a few shades of oxide and brown spray paints.



And lastly, per previous discussion, I'm scratchbuilding John Campbell’s Rattlesnake Mine from the Mar/Apr 98 Gazette.



The hoist house will get more Wild West corrugated roofing, but for now I'm starting on the ore house and tipple:
