ANYTHING N scale will run on Peco code 55, as far as flange depth.  That's the idea behind their rail design.  The only real problem is that modern American wheels don't always like the guard rail spacing, and that can be fixed with strip styrene shims on the inside of the guard rails.

When I was laying my staging yard, 20 years ago, I also found that some of the turnouts had angled ends on the points.  Those allowed small-flange wheels to run up and over the points, rather than following the as they should, causing split switches.  Other turnouts, with the same part number, had square ends, and worked fine.  I don't know which was the newer design, and haven't bought any since then, so don't know if it's still an issue.

Here’s the side profile of the Peco 55.  It’s quite acceptable.

I'd go with thin steel girders, like maybe 3/8" tall.

Ideally at some point I'll body-mount couplers and lower stuff.  But for now, I have another layout to build!

I ordered an assload of Z scale couplers and no-coupler arch bar trucks for some Fine N Scale old timey kits but also with an eye toward body-mounting the couplers on the existing cars with truck-mounts.

Looks like you'll have to cut gaps on some of those turnouts' frog rails.  The frogs on the turnout(s) labeled as Unifrog are already isolated, but the other electrofrogs will cause shorts if gaps aren't cut.  I just had to do this on my layout:

Oh yeah, I'm tracking.  I bought some insulated joiners for that purpose but am wondering if just cutting gaps isn't smarter.  On the RGS I just did the Dremel and styrene trick like you did.

I used an Atlas track saw rather than the Dremel, and the saw cuts gaps that are much thinner.  I think I used 0.010" styrene to fill the gaps.

Order some of the super-duper thin cutting discs from: https://www.dedeco.com/

Also, make the cuts on an angle. No styrene filler required.

Curious, they're all Electrofrog except for the Left, which is Unifrog (already gapped)...
