Busy weekend.

First, some wallet modeling. These are the new MTL PRR cars. Really nice! I like the etched metal brake platforms. Are those new?

And next to the Gold Standard of Pennsy boxcars.

It's a shame I'm gonna have to beat the tar out of them.

And speaking of the mighty P Co, here's a project I've been working on for a few weeks. I like super late era Pennsy stuff and even though most predecessor stuff somehow got repainted during the PC era, when I had the opportunity to pick this guy up for ~$30 at a train show, I had to go for it.

It contained a pleasant surprise inside: the recent DCC friendly mechanism! I was for sure this was gonna have to get a CN-GP in it.

I also added one of @sschaer 's radio antennas to my U25B, added a decoder, and applied some weathering. I was surprised how many of these things show up in early CR photos.

I also got started painting my SD40s up. One is gonna be pure PC and the other will get a Conrail patch.

Of course, there's a down side to modeling the mid to late 70s: the inclusion of prototypical track issues:

I wasn't gonna let that get me down though. Here's a photo that definitely belongs in the Railwire Friends thread. That was originally @Dave V 's GP9 on the left and @wm3798 's GP30 on the right. Both of whom are partially responsible for my interest in this era.

Nice work Ed, Love the 70's flavor...

Whats the story with the bar across the window on 7006?

They're really nice. I'd love some of the older style ones too that were slightly "beefier".

That's the support for the still to be installed canvas sunshades that I need to install.

Just changed the speaker in my new scale trains dash 9.

The OEM speaker is an 11x15 shown here just stuck diaphragm side down onto the bottom of the tank using a 1mm thick self adhesive foam ring.  This gives about 170mm3 of speaker enclosure.

I took that out just by desoldering the wires and building a new enclosure for a 9x16 speaker installed as shown.
Diaphragm side facing down toward the track giving me now over 800mm3 of enclosure.

Big difference in sound. I didn’t even take the shell off.

I did this before as part of a complete decoder installation as per .. https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=48271.msg639377#msg639377

Modernized my FL9. Main details added: K5LA horn, HEP fan and exhaust, front and rear marker lights, lighted numberboards and ditchlight/MU housings. All that's left is fixing that light bleed on the numberboard and to reweather after the renumbering.

Nothing new the last few months.  Haven't really been motivated to work on the layout.  Looking to dismantle and start either module builds or set up a point to point round the wall layout.  Since I've been working from home for the last year, I've made part of the layout room my office and having a 4 x 8 layout takes up a lot of real-estate.  :(  Look forward to a new start though, but I know breaking it down will be painful.

Modeling the L&N, well at least a few times a year.

Suggestion: please offer it for sale. Given the incredible quality of the overall execution I am sure that somebody or several somebodies will be interested in giving it a new home.

That said, regardless of its fate, I'm certain that whatever you do for a future layout, or modules, will be top-notch. Looking forward to it.

Thats very nice of you to say, but I would probably just give it away to someone who would give it a good home.  The layout is still very much in the building stage as I was starting to go back and redo some of the scenery, but I would keep the signals, electronics and the actual base the layout sits on but everything on the plywood they could take.

Some how I find the elevator music pleasing and relaxing to go with the retroness!  I feel like I'm on vacation somewhere and not locked up in my house!  Weird!    :D

Looks outstanding! But... that car must weigh a ton, with that solid brass prop!
