So I submit for approval what the car looks like with 3" ribs and 9" spacing between. It looks pretty good but I'd like to hear what people think. One of the CGW cars had the ribs past the doors, the other didn't.As I said in the other thread, I'll also be doing a few other item so you can model the vestibules open. A have one picture of the inside door I would love to see any others.Jason
The spacing looks good. Any ideas or plans for extending the sides lower?
@wcfn100 Jason are you going for a triple layer etch or half-etch? The doors are at the same etch level as the rest of the side. so the door will just be smooth with no edge at the door, at least the way the current image shows. Are you etching separate doors?
I don't think I'm going to add that as part of any etching. Personally I go back and forth on whether to do it or not. On the model, the curvature of the sill starts at the bottom of the door. You would basically have to remove all the way up to the bottom rib. to get a good flat seem with the extension. But regardless of that, I feel like that's a job that can be accomplished with styrene since it can be a pretty thick piece (.02-.03") and it can be sanded to finish the bottom edge. But if you have any thoughts on it, I would like to hear them.Jason
I'm not seeing a Dutch door. I see a raised trap over the steps but to my best knowledge there were not Dutch doors on the 1935 cars.
It does look like it's just a solid door. My 'guess' is more based on this picture.Maybe it was modified or maybe we just can't make out the separation on the MILW picture. Maybe even in the CGW photo, it's not a separation, just some weird seam.Jason
