This is pretty cool.  I almost thought it was a oval:

I know exactly where that is, but I had no idea it was there.  That is cool.  If you want an oval, just go north on the Delarva peninsula to just northwest of Delaware City, and . . .

It's a loop, a reverse loop, and a wye!

Interesting.  The nearby road is "Conrail Road".

Here is another one, west of Turlock, CA.  The oval loop serves an agricultural facility- Foster Farms Turlock Commodities with covered hoppers (not the Walnut Energy Center which is due south and incorrectly location on the Google map).  Not my cup of tea, but if you're into covered hoppers it would make a good 4x8 layout.

These days, loops around large industries are not hard to find when following rail lines on satellite maps.  But, looking at the OP image as well as some of the additions, it looks to me like these loops are designed for one-person train crews, to minimize walking when working the industries.  The OP image has all the switches needed for run-arounds without the need for the loop to get to the other side of car cuts.  Or, perhaps the trains are all "turns" and the railroad wants it locos to all run with their cabs in front (or back).

The first location is the Purdue facility in Seaford and the second is the load out at the refinery in Delaware City, correct? I've been down that way several times and seen trains at both (Conrail at Seafrod before DMV, and I believe NS was moving a train out of Delaware City. In 2018 or 2019 Seaford was getting so much grain in that it was piled up in the yard, probably 40 to 50 ft. high and 100 ft. or more at the base, they were covering it with plastic tarps, big plastic tarps.

Most of the grain you saw was barged in.
