Good idea Max.  My original post states: Having a lathe in my workshop makes this job easy, but I suppose that chucking the axle tube in a Dremel, and using a file to reduce the diameter should work too.
I guess one has to read through the whole long post to know.  I'm also guilty of skimming through other's posts. :D

Guilty as charged.   :)   Although in my defense, I did read the captions and text under every photo right to the end (i.e. I didn't just bounce through the photos).  But I did not read carefully enough to see that comment from you.  I was obsessed with looking at the chuck in your lathe and wondering what brand it is  (it's a Sherline, right?)

You're forgiven!  I can't hold a grudge for something that I'm guilty of doing myself.  :D

Yes, it's a Sheline lathe. I owned it for over 30 years, and went through a series of upgrades (including a DRO),  but no CNC.  I also have a Sherline mill which again started as a vertical milling column attachment I had for the lathe.  Sheline is like playing with Legos - you can just keep adding on blocks . . .   :)
