Kind of homely looking (the paint scheme is not doing any favors either), and the curvature of the loco's body doesn't even seem ot match the cars?! Makes the original Acela look very elegant.

The paint scheme looks like something you would find on a fantasy toy-train for little kids.  Gaudy!

Horrid, stubby-looking train.

They need a more aerodynamic design:

... And here: https://www.newsbreak.com/new-york/buffalo/news/0OAKVggY/amtraks-new-high-speed-train-acela-makes-a-stop-in-buffalo ...

"...New York to Colorado ..." Hmm. I'm guessing these are diesel, or maybe dual-power?

Don't be too quick to judge the looks. Apparently the nose works like the Shinkansen cabs, with an aero dome that retracts for coupling. I see a stylistic fudge, however, underneath the cab - the swooshy gray paint to imply a fairing contour that isn't there.

Looking forward to these coming online. Maybe I shouldn't squander my Amtrak points on 60-mile lunch runs after all.  ;)

Yeah that's the part that immediately irked me when I saw it last month. I'm like, this is a brand new train set, it's not being retro-fit to existing rolling stock, so why?  Doesn't make any sense to me unless they're planning to bolt on some plastic transition/contour pieces to the back of the engines.  If I had to guess, the passenger cars are probably bulging out to conform to existing platforms and the European version of this set do match the locos.  But if they can bulge out the cars, surely they can do the same for the engines?

They are being pulled to Colorado by a bunch of P42s and I'm assuming coming back also after trials.  I think they are all electric.

  Sheesh. Pueblo. OK, I'm with the program now. The grillework on the roof fairing had me going that it could have been radiators. Oh, well.

You got that right!  Looked like two engineering teams, one for loco and one for coaches, who never talked to each other!   :o

Hopefully never!
Kato never even made Acela (and that was was much easier on the eyes).  :)
