I don't think so.  They are too long for either the Atlas or MDC "beercans" and too short for the MDC 50 ft. They also look like a smaller diameter.

Actually I think the MDC tanker would be a decent stand-in (after upgrading the details).  According to some RailPictures entries, the prototype car is 45'2" long (over the platforms?) and has a capy of 13629 gals.  From photos, it looks like the tank diameter is about 9', but that would imply a volume of about 19K gallons, so I'm not sure how to reconcile that (unless the i.d. is quite a bit smaller, with linings).

In any event, the MDC tanker is 48' 6" and the tank diameter is about 9', so it's probably about as close as you could hope for.

Would anyone here be able to tell me whether these kind of short tank cars were ever produced in N scale?

Not yet! Short by today's standards I guess.

Con-Cor had a bunch of high riding funnel flows long ago, probably would take a lot of work to make a decent model (and the tank looks more robust than the 3rd version you posted):

I used to have a few of those but got rid of them in a purge a few years ago.  I suppose one could shorten them, but that would only be worth the effort if they were going to be more than as a stand-in.

(One of these days I'm going to have to get a 3D printer....  :ashat:)

Thanks!

See if either of the Atlas kaolin or corn syrup tank cars might be close enough for you.

I was considering modeling a similar car by stretching an Atlas Beer Can Tank..

Cut one tank at each side just past the center, cut another tank at the appropriate length from the spout and recombine...

If you make a mini fleet, you could take the extra spouts and ends a d make mini beer cans or a multi-compartment tank.

Yes, because longer cars will not handle those tight curves they use.  :D

You have to try Atlas O-108 curve track:

Yeah, those are perfect for warehouse-size layouts, but most O-Gauge home layouts use tighter curves.

The more I look at it -- and the clunky details aside -- I really think the old MDC tanker would make a decent starting point for this car.  Here's an out-of-the-box model shot:

and an overlay on one of the photos that Ed linked to in the OP:

If the data about the proto car's length is correct (45'2"), then the MDC car is about 6% longer.  I think it still has decent bones though.

P.S. The reporting marks should have been a hint. :P Here's a bonus overlay with a different proto pic:

Gold Medal Models used to make, and probably still does, a very nice detailing kit for the MDC cars.
