We had one of those antennas on the roof when we were little, and man, that thing was slow.  Living halfway between Baltimore and Philadelphia, we could pick up channels from each town.  It never failed that what you wanted to watch was on a channel from the other city, because it took forever for that antenna to move 180 degrees.  Worse was when you got there and realized nothing better was on.  Reverse, march!  Ugh.

more sheer brilliance and skill! kudos DKS on the antenna!

still have one, rotating unit not operational but wire is still connected. IDK where it ends up once it enters the crawl space under the house. nonetheless, do not need it close enough the Harrisburg and Lancaster PA for local versions of major networks.


which reminds me, it is installed on a one room roof that is almost level. every summer i have had to seal it with a tar like substance. guess what i have not done yet this year. augh...

In a strange twist, the very first animated project I'd planned for the layout is, to date, the second-to-last to be completed. But, completed it is.

Correct me if I’m misunderstanding the water physics, but if the water is coming down the wall in the back and flowing to the front, shouldn’t the wheel be going the other way?

I've seen wheels spin both ways. It depends how you direct the water. Some mills use water turbines and the water runs in a pipe, not as much fun to model though. The wheel at my local mill is enclosed in the basement to help protect from the winter. They recently replace the wheel for $182,000 bones  :scared:

There are three main types of water wheels, the main difference is the height at which the water meets the wheel.
Undershot wheels are basically just the wheel in a stream. The water flows under the wheel and turns it.
Breastshot wheels can be thought of as undershot wheels with a small dam. The water meets the wheel halfway up.
Overshot wheels raise the water even higher so that it meets the wheel at the top. These are the most efficient because the weight of the water can do work on the wheel all the way down. They can be set up to spin in either direction where are the other two can't.
