For more of a 1950s effect, it should be carbon-composition resistors wired to terminal strips, or instead use grain-of-wheat bulbs.

I wasn't even around  in the '50s.     And terminal strips, and grain of wheat bulbs would be a bit oversize to fit that N scale model.   Grain of rice? Maybe. 
At least carbon composition resistors were available in 1/8W size.

Do you have room for a covered bridge on the layout?

I wish. I'd thought about making the pony truss a covered bridge, but I was having trouble making it all work. I'll just have to pretend there's one "off stage."

When I first built this and released a video of it several years ago, no lie within a month or two I had 6-8 Japanese television stations contact me asking if they could interview me for their "human interest" television programs (they all said they'd fly a film crew to the US and interview me at home). I refused every one of them: I checked them out, and they were all "wacky people and the wacky sh!t they do of the week" shows. I'm sorry, I admit I'm a little nuts around the edges, but I'm not some "Ripley's Believe It or Not" freak for them to laugh at.



And yes, I investigated registering this with Guinness Book of Records. Sadly Guinness has degraded into a freak show (just check their website--image above). The financial cost alone of proving that it's real and that I made it was outrageous--I'd have to provide multiple signed and witnessed affidavits. It wasn't worth it to become just another freak of the week.

Every time I think I'm out of ideas, I come up with another one. This is an effect I'd wanted to create for the Black River and Western, and forgot about it until I was sifting through old files. It's really dirt simple: A low-RPM motor drive rotates a gear having fine tubing attached. The antenna (a Gold Medal Models item) is soldered to a wire mast, which is simply inserted into the tube, making it really easy to install or remove for maintenance.
