Outstanding!

Where did you get 0201 warm white LEDs? I’ve only had lunch finding cool white.

Today I challenged myself to make a "bubblegum machine" for a classic 1950s police car, substantially similar to this one:



I started by soldering one leg of a red 0402 SMD LED to the end of a 0.015" diameter brass wire rod, soldering #40 solenoid wire to the other leg, and gluing the solenoid wire to the brass wire rod with CA. Then I created a concentric ring at the bottom of the wire using telescoping brass tubing, with a bit of shrink wrap in between two tubes. I press-fit this assembly into the output shaft of a servomotor, and built a set of wipers around it to power the LED.


The LED will fit up into a tiny red dome I've already created that will be mounted to the roof of a Rasputen vehicle. I made the dome by drilling out the guts of a 1.6mm red LED--the size is just about perfect. That'll be the next phase of this silly project.

Back in the same era, the hot lick on fire apparatus was one of two things...a Mars light, which operated on a pedestal much like your fan but with an up and down motion or a thing called a Roto-Ray which was 3 lights and operated exactly like your fan mechanism minus the horizontal movement. I'm sure you could knock either one out of the park easily.

My uncle was in our local VFD and was the driver for a fire truck that had the exact rotating light you’re using as your model prototype. Honestly, in order to reproduce the look you’re after, you may have to create a double beam appearance rather than a single beam look. Yours looks European to me.

Maybe a single tiny bright white LED held stationary on the tip of a small tube with a larger tube with a hole drilled through both sides to let the light out rotating around the inner tube/LED assembly within the drilled out red led lens. Don’t know if this could be made small enough for N-scale though, even if the effect works. Maybe the red bubble gum lens could rotate? It would have 2 light beams. Just spit-balling here... feel free to ignore ravings of a crazy person.

Yes, it does look European.  I actually had one of those 1:1 scale in my "party room" (aka. bedroom).  :D  This type of beacon have stationary bulb and the reflector rotates around it creating that single flash effect.  But as far as DKS' version goes, it is better than anything I could come up with in N scale.
