You stole my line !

On that note, I'm taking up fishing with Vicky Stark.  I'd post a link but might not be work or family friendly  :o

That was my reaction when he built the first one.

@DKS Thank you for showing us the basic construction steps in your video. I kept pausing the full screen video & zooming in on the parts that make up the transfer of motion from the turning of the vertical wire in the tube to the horizontal motion of turning the fan blades. Did you glue the fan blade wire to the insulation that is being pushed by the coupler spring or is it a friction fit? Also, is the drive hub on top of the vertical wire inside the tube just some larger dia tube of brass soldered to the top and then filed to shape? I know most magicians don’t like to reveal their tricks but curious minds might want to know.

Meh, the cage's perimeter is way out of scale (I'm channeling someone else here).   :)
But at least the blades seem to be twisted slightly to actually move air.

I also thoroughly enjoyed seeing the construction details. DKS always manages to awe me with his ingenuity.  Now I'm patiently awaiting the next step.

You're welcome.

Friction fit.

Yep.

I know most magicians don’t like to reveal their tricks but curious minds might want to know.

I'm not most magicians. Indeed, I'm not really a magician--just a nutcase modeler.

DKS exists on a higher plane of modeling...one we can only observe from our lowly perch!

Next up old lady in a rocking chair... but with a cat next to her wagging it's tail so it just misses the chair rails. All while the cat is pawing a mouse running around the porch.

.  .  . and just like in the 1:1 scale table  fans, the oscillation is powered by the same motor that drives the fan, through a set of reduction gears.  Ok, I'm amazed again.  And yes, thank you for showing how the "magic" was done (and for the Dime size comparison).

Some layouts I visit have a list (for both kids and adults) of fun details to find on the layout.  Usually those are something like a monkey in a tree, a peeing drunk, or a nude sunbather. On your layout it will be "find a fully functional table fan, and a barber pole"!
