Wednesday was wasted on a new freight depot (the little one I scratchbuilt was too small for the enlarged town): I did a straight build of American Model Builders #601 General Service Building. I had to see it "in the flesh" to realize it wasn't right for the layout either; the look was all wrong. So yesterday I switched gears and started to scratch-bash a hardware store. I struggled to find a kit to serve as an appropriate starting point, then realized I was going at it from the wrong end: I needed to start with a reference. Robie's Country Store in Hooksett (on the National Register of Historic Places) is a bit unusual as far as New Hampshire structures go, but it got me thinking—and look what's beside it!



Model-wise I was only after something vaguely like it, as the real store is much too ornate for my taste. I started with the side walls from Northeast Scale Models #AMO629 One Story Section House and the front porch from American Model Builders #645 Nine Mile House, with columns swiped from a Miller Engineering #NG-100 Gazebo. In one afternoon I'd scratchbuilt the front and back walls of the building, and assembled them with the side walls and back extension onto a foundation. The wires in the image below are for porch lights.

BTW on another note, you definitely need to find a new cardiologist.  Mine spends a minimum of 20 minutes with me just to chat about everything going on.  That is how they get a better handle on how you are doing functionally.

DKS is back to his old tricks! 

That motor looks very similar to the ones I bought few years ago.  I used them to animate some carnival rides.  I also remember taking the gearhead apart, and being able to rearrange the gears (remove couple) to reduce the gear ratio. Maybe you could do the same to your motors, and increase the fan speed without increasing the  noise level.
