N scale farm figures and animals.

I scratched built a Amish barn raising to go on my N scale layout but am having problems finding any farm figures that I can use as Amish men building the barn.Any suggestions on who might have any?Also I want to add cows and horses to my two farms and need some nice animal figures painted or non painted.Prices seem a little high with some companies and you only get about 6 painted figures for around $15.

 The painted cow is WS and I'm using it to scale the ones I print.

That dog next to the cow seems a bit tall (and it doesn't look like a Great Dane, or a Newfie). Maybe seeing it next to a human figure would be better size reference?

Yes, the dog looks more to scale, but now the cow looks more like a calf. I'm no cow expert (city boy), but the cows I've seen at agricultural fairs seem quite a bit taller.

I think the "cow" looks great, but it will depend on the breed (color you paint it) as to whether it is a young animal or a full grown animal.  The "cow" looks about the right size for a full grown Jersey, and would probably work for a yearling black Angus.  It is not "lanky" enough for a Holstein calf, but could pass as a 6 month old Charolais calf, just paint it off white.   

I put cow in quotes because it looks a lot like a steer.

That reminds me of a funny story. A couple of years ago, at the KC convention, I got to visit what I considered a fantastic HO layout that, among other things,  featured a beautifully detailed farm scene. I complimented the owner and he started laughing.... apparently he invited a non-model railroad neighbor couple to view his layout and they shredded his farm scene: the outhouse was too far from the house (who wants to traipse that far in snow and rain), too close to the pump, his cows would eat his corn patch because it wasn’t properly fenced, and the cows were all wrong ! Only an idiot would mix varieties without separating them... Turns out they were raised on a farm...
So it’s good to have experts in everything

The head looks more like a horse or mule - their ears come out more to the top and point up whereas
cows ears - well as an exercise check them out. Check sheep ears while you're becoming an ear expert.

You guys never seen spotted mules?  Those are Holstein mules.
