Caterpillar Yellow

Does anyone know the formula for mixing paints to end up with Caterpillar yellow?  The brand doesn't matter as long as it's all the same brand.  I've searched TRW and found nothing.

Are you talking the color of their Diesel engines, or the entire vehicles themselves?  Just making sure.

We have a Caterpillar tow motor at work.  To me it is a yellow with some red in it to make it slightly orange. I know that isn't a formula, but you could experiment and see if you like the color.

Which CAT yellow?  The old CAT yellow that was very bright based on chromate pigment or the current CAT yellow that is a mustard yellow matched with yellow iron oxide, red iron oxide, black and white pigments?  I have access to official CAT yellow color standards and formulas of the CAT yellow topcoats supplied to Caterpillar.  Unfortunately, I cannot provide any of this to folks here since it is proprietary information.

The diesel engines should be the same yellow color as the machines, since they are matched to the same CAT yellow color standard.

Yes, I'm talking about the more recent mustard yellow than bright yellow.  Can you send me something I can use to try and get a mix?

I could not find anything to match the Caterpillar colour several years ago and finally used Tamiya Yellow Green XF4 on my GHQ die-cast models in N Scale.
I was happy with the result.

According to this post, "The color is Krylon Bauhaus Yellow, a close match for the Catepillar yellow of the real truck."  But looking at the vintage of the modeled vehicle, I would say that it is the old Catepillar Yellow.

When I was building a model of a Peterbilt truck from the '80s, I used AccuPaint Imitation Gold (or maybe Light Imitation Gold - I don't recall) to paint the engine (because I thought it look like the right color).  The colors in that photo are not rendered quite right. The color is a bit less orange.

you could decant into a bottle to use. The paint they use is an enamel.

We actually talked about this a few years ago. You can buy spray paint in both old and new cat colors. You can decanter them to use with an airbrush.  You could probably search here and see exactly what I used.

They changed from grey and red in December of 1931
and then they changed to the 'new' cat yellow in June of 1979 ...
it depends on the era of the equipment what color it is ..
and [just for your information] era two paint is available both leaded and unleaded

Picked up a can today.   They also have cans of "Cat Black".  Thanks for the suggestion.
