The snow scene (below, 10 years old now!) was created using Mike Danneman’s techniques which use a variety of materials.  The drifting snow is Woodland Scenics LW hydrocal wet until liquified with a very fine mist from a perfume atomizer.

Well as luck would have it one is coming right up! Just one catch: you need to be in Vancouver.  Explanations and demos will form a clinic of the 5th Annual Railway Modellers Meet of BC http://railwaymodellersmeetofbc.ca/, May 22nd-24th.  Bring a friend!  Meet Gary Hinshaw live!

Far from the most flattering photo, but a good indicator of the effect of the trucks AND the under frame details.

Sure. Ignore the painting differences, but...

Here's a regular IM SD40-2 (with Keystone Detail snap-in flexicoil trucks installed).

And here's her sister with the frame rails installed. See how the underbody detail fills up a lot of the "open air" between the sill and the trucks?

^ Impressive!   Any plans to add an underframe, to take up some of that 'air space' between the trucks and fuel tank?

Ed

Edit -- I spoke too soon, just looked at the first pic   Should it be a bit lower tho, or would that interfere with the truck pickups?

Will the underframe be for sale separate from the trucks?

That's a good question. I'm going to check it out today to see how much more height can be added. I know prototypically it should line up with the top of the fuel tank, but I think IM stretched that area a bit so... we'll just have to figure it out.

Ed, what about the trucks for Kato's mid- production SD40-2 any plans? Just curious.
I will have to dress up my IM units and count up my SD50's( or do I want to know? :scared:) and patiently wait. Which basically means start saving now.  Nice job Ed thanks.

I can't speak for John, but I don't think there are enough Kato custom paints to make it viable. I could be wrong though. The tough part would be getting the truck attachment points right where is snaps in.

Question about the SD50s. How excited would you be about frame rails for those too? There's not as much white space to fill in, but it's still there and I think they'd look hot myself.

Well I finally did it!  I finally poured my river.  Its only been how many years now?  I did two pours, but poured less on the second to add a little more height and cover a couple of areas I needed to fix from the first.  The only problem was the second pour left a bit of a lip where it stopped leveling out.  I thought it would flatten out seamlessly but that was not the case.  I have to be honest I was a bit irritated and almost dismantled my layout, but the wife's cooler head prevailed and told me to sleep on it.

David

So you had to sleep on the lip ?  :?

Is it just me, or just the camera...  That shell looks like it has a horrible bow to it, and the ride height is not something to be proud of.  Do you just not have the shell seated properly?

You didn't pay money for that, did you? :scared:

The 3-D printed stuff looks good though... :D

Looks like curvature distortion of a wide angle lens.
