Would like help from one of you folks with a 3-d printer

I’ve been working my way through scratch building many of the important buildings in Prescott, Arizona for my layout. I measured the depot about ten years ago to build it, and it never got off the ground because I am not sure how to build the corner arches. I need to make eight that are identical, and two scale feet thick. It would be a PITA to do it with styrene. So here’s the ask: would one of you be interested in doing the CAD drawing and printing these things for me? Of course, I will pay for your time. There are four corners, with two arches each at a 90 degree angle. For ease of doing the drawing, I will cut and join the arches myself, so I really just need eight flat arches. Here’s some pictures: [ Guests cannot view attachments ] [ Guests cannot view attachments ] [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

Picture one is the depot
Picture two is a drawing I made of the arch
Picture three is the Courthouse square( so far, lots more to do)

Thanks!

Jim

And yes, I know the pick up and bobcat are doing some time traveling . I had just finished them and decided to take a picture of them, so I dropped them on the layout.

These could be cut from sheet styrene (using one of the craft cutters), or wood (using laser cutter).  Just design a "kit" of flat parts which would be assembled into those structures.  Of course 3D printing is another option, but I think the other 2 methods would be easier.

Can a craft cutter cut through 1/4 inch styrene? If so, I might need to get one!

Nope.  I was thinking of making this part of the building hollow (like injection-molded structure kits) from 0.030" (or so) styrene.  So the columns would actually consist of 4 walls.

Now you got me thinking. It looks like I may be able to cut the arches out of the thicker styrene with a small bandsaw, and make the cornices separately out of thinner styrene and just attach them. I didn’t realize until I read your post and was taking a closer look that the cornices are not the same thickness as the columns. I will have to figure out a way to get into the depot And look out of the second-floor window to see what the back of the arches looks like. It’s bad enough that the current tenants of the depot thought I was a weirdo when I spent two hours measuring every part of it!

That 3rd image (Courthouse square) is great. Where did you get the 58 Impala? ?

I can help you with this, especially since you have a mostly dimensioned drawing already. I think for something like this, a Shapeways FDM print would work?

EDIT: Actually since its FDM I could help with printing as well? Send me a DM if you are interested.

Yes, that scene looks great!  I especially like the coloring on the roads, and how nice and busy it looks with all the vehicles and figures.

What is the diameter of the arch?  Use the appropriately sized hole saw on your drill and cut the arch, then use the band saw to cut the legs.  Bip bop bip.

This is what you need right?

Just needs the cornice (cap?) on top of the posts.  And the walls on the top are much thinner than the thickness of those columns  :)

Either cutting or 3d printing would work, but cutting would be much faster ...
just cut the front and glue on styrene depth additions

I sent some PM’s. You guys are awesome. This project has been sitting on my bench for literally ten years. Time to finish it. Here’s another View of Courthouse Square and whiskey row in Prescott for anybody who is interested. I’m on the road doing this on a phone so forgive my technical imperfections. I am in the final stages of putting my lower back together after having moved it from my house in Prescott down to Phoenix. I have finished the benchmark I needed for the difference in the size and shape, and done all of the wiring and Tracking that I needed to. Now I can actually start doing some modeling. Very much looking forward to it

Carl, the ‘58 Chevy was by Road Apples. Since I took the picture, I replaced most of my vehicles with ones from Rasputin. I kept the 58 impala because it’s one of my favorite cars
