Tenders will be available assembled and primed but still have to be painted black and decalled.
The archbar eleptical spring trucks feature all wheel current pickup (modified FVM wheels).

The shell and floor are cast resin and the trucks are 3D printed.
Separate phosphor bronze etchings.
3D printed shell and floor are also available directly from Shapeways.

How do you cone the etchings to accept the FVM axles?

I certainly do hope Adam is happy....... and Randy as well!

Its very simple.... there is no cone, just a 0,9 mm hole and the axle is 1,2mm
The 3D printed truckframe has cones, to avoid any interference/drag with the axle needle.

The small piece of shrinktubing keeps the etching fixed to the truck frame, but this way the etching has some room to move about inside the truckframe.
The added advantage is the fact that the wheelsets always have quite a bit of play and alsways will make contact with the railhead.

I still have quite some 33' FVM wheelsets in different axle length so I made different width trucks as well......

When you insert a wheelset the needle point just has to be forced between the 2 etchings.

You have to cut the FVM wheels in half and reattach the 2 halves with an insulating (3D printed) sleeve.

A little brass shim between sleeve and the one insulated wheel plus some silver/conductive paint/glue makes that all wheels can be used for electrical pickup....

My complements to you for leading this project and you design guy for getting it right.  As you know, I'm a fan and a client of your work.  But if I had my wishes for these trucks, it would be to work out some improvement with the modified wheel sets.  FVW muffs are a bit of a detraction.  I've been wondering if there might be a more sleek solution to insulate the axles (carbon fibre rod)?  Don't know.  Also, would encourage you to consider etching the archbars on the axle pickups, so they are not visible. 

And again, thanks for permitting me to swing by and check out your items and layout first hand.  And fair warning: I may be returning to Europe this fall, this time met mijn vrouw en mijn jongen.

Thanks for the complements!

Regarding the sleeves/muffs..... you have a point but the advantage of the 3D printed version is the exact/constant size/length... you could use transparant tubing 1,5 mm inside and 2,5 mm outside but getting the same size every time (and its more flexible) or cutting carbon tubing to the exact same size every time I doubt.... I will do some experimenting.  In the meantime: paint the 3D version black and in normal viewing you will never notice.

Thats the same story for the etchings..... paint the outside black and they are hard to see. Following the contours of the truck will give a much too weak etching I am afraid.

When you go to Amsterdam still fall you are most welcome to come over and visit me/us again!
