According to some local hobby shops at the time, hobby sales held steady or increased around 2008 as people moved to hobbies instead of more expensive vacations, extravagant things, etc.

So who knows.  Could be the market.  Could be the low appeal of eastern name trains.

Nothing is going to top California Zephyr sales, no matter what happens to the market, eh?

SP Morning Daylight is a much prettier train (especially with a GS-4 pulling it).

I did not care for the color or the finish on the Kato BL cars/locos.  They look too plasticy to me.

I bought the first run of the Kato BL 10+4 car sets and the matching E8's.  I bought a second 10+4 car set from a guy in Australia that was a really good deal.  He even included a FVM PRR ES44 by accident that was not part of the deal.  I offered to return the PRR ES44 unit, but he said to keep it.  I did buy several BM70's from the recent re-run and may or may not buy the 2nd run of the BL.  I have plenty of BLI PRR E7 and E8 units and older Kato E8 units, so I'll probably skip the new Kato ones.

I really wish Kato had done the earlier version of the TCL with a streamlined J3a.  I would have bought one.  I may or may not buy the TCL.  Maybe line it up against the BL like @chicken45 suggested.

That's anecdotal. :D And anecdotal is likely all the evidence we'll ever see here.

Personally, I passed on the 1st Broadway Limited release as money was a bit tight.

I bought the recent release when it came out.

Important question: Is the Kato Broadway to blame for Covid-19?

just pre-ordered mine.  I am a Streamliner guy at heart and we need to support this project.
I got the base set plus add-on plus locomotives.
I look forward to running it on Cody's Middle Division and watching the universe implode.

I'm just basing on number of releases.  Far more CZ releases than Daylights.  Far more sold therefore.

You are correct that Daylight is prettier.   :)

I guess I'm one of those ones that seem to collect all the Kato name trains, though I haven't picked up the Southwest Limited, CNW 400, or the CN Transcontinental. Nor the Metra Christmas trains. Although I have been tempted to pick up the CN and UP CoLA was purchased to re-purpose a majority of the cars for the modern UP business train.

I was lucky enough a year or so ago to score a first run BL 10+4 for $250 w/shipping. I just wish I could find a original pair of the PRR E8s 5711 and 5809 for not an arm and a leg.

I believe Kato has done every CZ train set except one, which includes the Silver Rapids. About the time I start to rename a spare I picked up, Kato will do it. Still need two WP F3Bs though for the third leg of the train.

I'm picking up the TCL to run as the set, but also to throw the Hickory Creek on the back of my Amtrak Lake Shore Limited every once in a while to bring up the markers.
Attempting to model a modern Southern Pacific based in 2015/2016...

Also, I have a passenger train addiction...

On the CZ, I'm waiting on Kato to release the FP7 in WP so that I can complete my CZ.

I can’t commit to the CN train coming out soon.  I have all the name trains. I don’t have the UP business trains but it keeps nagging at me.

Important question: Is the Kato Broadway to blame for Covid-19?

Does seem weird that a major economic disaster hit soon after each BL run was announced.... OR maybe it's the release of the TCL that's causing this one? Or the CN Transcontinental? Or the MTL ATSF Mail Train? It's said that model rairoading is dangerous for your budget but this is ridiculous!!! :D

I think the real question is, was Carol Baskin the cause of the poor sales of the Kato Broadway?

Kato did a skirted E5.  Something similar could be done for the TA.  Like I said, not optimal, but acceptable.

(Kato E5 image removed)

If you are suggesting separate portions of the model TA side skirts rotating with the trucks as "acceptable", a lot of people would disagree with you on that.  Some would consider that a throwback to the earliest days of N-scale (remember the first Kato PA with the separate pilot?).

While I do agree with you... A Con-cor Pioneer Zephyr that works is better then a Fine-N-scale Zephyr that can barely make 24" radius curves...
