Richie,  I don't know how you got started doing this every week, but it is always a treat to see what you've come up with.  Interesting stuff.

I started the weekend off by running a unit sand train. I need more ACFX hoppers. Hopefully Athearn and IM both rerun them.

Weathering track for my Sabillasville MD module. Its tedious, but I'm happy with the results. The nice things about projects like this is that they have nothing to do with nothing and provide a good chance to catch up on podcasts or music. Near to far - 1) rattle can flat black base coat 2) painted ties with Wally World acrylics 3) rails and tie plates painted with chalk/alcohol solution 4) web of rails painted with dust colored chalk/alcohol solution + final dusting with browns and blacks, polished rails.

Also 3D printed the bridge that I measured back in December and got the foam roughed in.

Heres what I'm shooting for - a screenshot taken from one of the Howard Sell films on youtube. Next project is to find something that matches the slag they used for ballast back then.

Aaaaaaand im back to cajon!
Heres cajon station. Ive shrunk my layout down to modeling keendbrook to Sullivan's curve. Sullivan's curve will be a good and large rendition of it. Most folks just throw the curve to the back in a corner. I on the other hand want to view it from the popular point that many photos were taken. The plans to have the curve as the main focal point walking into the room.
Also, as a real railroader, im not very into the whole ops thing. I wait on slow a$$ trainmen messing with their trains too much and i definitely don't wasnt that at home! I model what i never got to see and want to see my railroader moving.

Took the opportunity of a few days of work travel to do the major carving work on my SP B-50-14 40' boxcar hogfuel (woodchip) conversions and O-50-12 12.5K gallon tank cars. Next steps will be filling door and dome holes...

I was able to complete a bit of my personal model railroading history this morning.  I give you a picture of 4 year old me in front of my grandparents model railroad window Christmas display at their home in 1983.  In the photo, you can see a hotshot Western Maryland passenger train making the bend.

About a year ago, I was started looking to reassemble the set, if just to display it.  I managed to find the locomotive on eBay after not searching too long.  WM 3799, awful orange and white :D

Then this morning, I clicked on eBay, N scale trains, sort by newly listed items and quickly found this photo.  A New Haven baggage car with 3 coaches.  Exactly what I was looking for.  Starting bid $15 or make offer.  Sent an offer and it was quickly accepted.  Maybe I should have started lower :D

The layout had Standard Guage, Lionel, HO and N scale all packed on 2 4x8 sheets of plywood I believe.

I converted a Kato Dome car that had been lettered for Santa Fe to a Phase I Amtrak car. I think this dome was part of an early corrugated passenger car set that Kato had done; the cars were based on Burlington prototypes, so the Budd dome was not accurate for Santa Fe.

I stripped the Santa Fe markings and created my own Amtrak decals. I painted the white background and applied the stripes over the whole side, and then I very slowly cut out the window openings (a lot of fun!).

Thanks,
Bart

Thank you Sir , not having a life coupled with retirement made me a dead ringer to offer my time .

Dabbling with scenery techniques in one corner of the layout and quite enjoying the process.   There have been lots of re-dos already but I am happy with the gravel roads and  gravel / dirt siding area.    The foreground field area will likely get another go.    A late summer hay field seems more appropriate for this area so I will have to play around with some textures and techniques to get that look.

Hi Andy:

Looking good!  Lots of hay fields in your area and mine.  Let me know when you figure out the best way to do a hay field so I can copy  :D.

My layout has resumed revenue operations after a five month hiatus, during which numerous changes were made.  The list of "firsts" for this session included:
- new Lenz DCC system
- new Train Operating Procedures for crews
- new Locomotive Operating Manual for crews
- new Bad Order Card system for RIP track
- replacement turnouts at Canfor mill and Sundance siding
- new fast clock system
- first session for three new locomotives and twenty new freight cars
- all locomotives now speed matched
- all locos and cars run through inspection program before going on layout
- and home baking for the refreshments!

This was a lop-sided session with respect to car movements as were was nothing on the layout to start with.  The V-P Freight arrived with a record 39 cars behind M-630717, C-630M 701 and RS-3 574.  The RS-3 will be set out for yard service at Chetwynd.  This was actually the first session for 717 after a truck rebuild finally cured some serious running issues which have plagued this unit since build:

Further back in the train were the mid-train remotes comprising Remote Control Car RCC 2, CN C-424 3218 and M-630 710.  All of the cars behind the remotes were making their debut onto the layout:

Meanwhile, in Dawson Creek, NAR Train 51/52 was entering the BCR yard with a cut of interchange cars for the BCR.  All of these cars were also making their first appearance on the layout, including the cute little half bay window NAR caboose recently arrived from Bluford Shops (great to see manufacturers attending to the smaller Canadian railways).  A BCR work crew was completing a work session as the NAR transfer rumbled past:

My new RS-3 locomotives made their operational debut.  PGE 567 and BCR 570 were assigned to a work train on the Dawson Creek Subdivision:

A little later, the eastbound Dawson Creek Switcher follows the work train over the subdivision with 15 cars behind C-425 804, C-420 632, and C-425 812.  This was 632's first road assignment after serving as the Chetwynd yard engine for the first 17 sessions:

RS-3s 570 and 567 are seen at Progress on their return trip to Chetwynd:

Meanwhile, RS-3 574 was busy switching the yard at Chetwynd.  It is seen here delivering a cut of cars to the Canfor mill:

Engs 812, 632 and 804 cross Highway 97 with a single car from Dawson Creek.  It will go south to Prince George and then on via CN to Prince Rupert:

The Septimus Turn arrives back in Chetwynd behind C-425s 810 and 807 with cars from Fort St. John:

The session concluded with departure of the P-V Freight led by M-630 710:

The session was successful and was enjoyed by all, including the home baking!

Thanks for looking,

Tim

This week was filled with more of my current coil car and steel train obsession.

This is an older Roundhouse gondola that I removed the ends from and replaced with some new printed ends to represent the gondolas NS has in pipe and steel service. I also added etched ladders.

I also started desinging another common car I see on trains here, the PC F50 class coil car. This is my first car design with a coupler pocket designed in for a MT coupler.
