LL BL-2 to PRR foobie extreme

The PRR seemed slow to pick up on the road-switcher trend, even though they had been buying diesel road units and yard switchers.
During the period ('47-'49) that the BL2 was in production, the PRR acquired only one Alco RS1.
That Alco was bought to replace a steam loco in Baltimore-area commuter service.
Maybe it was a matter of (not) having to train the shop forces out "in the sticks" how to maintain the "newfangled diesel stuff."

Haha, that service was the Parkton Local, something quite near and dear to my heart as it ran on the lower third of the NCR that I hold so near.

i had a Bev-Bel GP-38 that has become a practice paint job
as you can see, both stripped fairly well, the BL-2 moreso
but for practice the GP-38 is stripped sufficiently

i am aware of the practice on a plastic spoon techinique
since it is a spray can of paint, i have much experience with that method
just want to see how the paint covers and how it reveals details


i do not have a means to set up my booth, nor a way to vent it
and it is winter and cold here, so if the spray can does not do a good enough
cover, i will be forced to set up the booth in the attic where a vent good be
added to a window, but i am lazy and too much work involved to do so.
thus, i hoping for the best


paint will happen tonight
may be tomorrow until i spray the BL-2
but photos will be following

paint happened over the weekend
allowed to dry until today

this one needs redone thanks to the stray hair and some orange peel effect

the uneven color is due to flash/lighting
will hope to get better w/ photos


decals ready but will need to touch up at least that one side

And if you throw a coat of gloss coat on before the decals, it will smooth out even more.

i am going to try to tweezer the hair out
it seems more surface than in the paint
(thanks to either Dollie Jayne Bichon or Maggie Lynne Shih for that)
and the paint beneath it my be good enough
will try the next day i find my steadier hands

As far as “dang hair”, I have removed hairs a couple of times with a tweezer, lightly sanded the ridges it left with 1500 grit sand paper and a light paint  touch up.   Saved a total stripping and a do over of a otherwise good paint job.

Bandit (as he is occasionally known) is also often blamed for strange odors that manifest themselves in the house, sometimes even when he is outside.

as for the hair:


it was just on surface of paint
one little pull with a tweezer and no mark left where the hair was
it was Bichon white


will hope to decal this coming weekend

soaked in stripping agent for 2 days
then gave it a nail polish remover bath
then a 91% alcohol bath
with some careful toothbrushing
washed with dawn
more 91% alcohol
let it dry/evaporate
then paint


will let set and dry 'til the weekend
more then

Did you paint it with the couplers installed?  I've never tried that.

after decaling
i plan on painting the handrails yellow
and the couplers a rust color
trying to avoid anything that might
create further work
if that is possible
