Officially the start of my CSX Hanover Subdivision 3.0.

Computer rendering of the new garage addition done by @wm3798

Which in the end, will allow a much bigger layout space

I never could see exactly what they were repairing in the photos on that link. Must have been heavy enough to need the forklift, but OTOH nearly everything on a locomotive is heavy enough to require a crane, lift or other overhead mechanical assistance.

A good operator with outdoor forklifts is amazing. I had a guy load my 3000# scissor lift into our box truck with one of those things from a gravel lot. There was maybe 2" vertical clearance. Didn't touch a thing, nice and easy and gentle.

So there is a basement layout room under the garage?

I started hanging curtains under the layout fascia. Sure makes a difference, with all the junk underneath out of sight. The layout is finally coming along, I like it! More on my “ATSF Los Angeles Division” thread in Layout Engineering...

I doubt the Army has any "repair shops" actually located on a post besides Ft. Eustis. Additionally, as you can see those are civilian contractors doing the repair. Anything beyond basic maintenance on something as esoteric locomotive repair would be contracted out. Also, by reading the article, it's why it only took 2 days to repair.

No, see this post for current house, garage is in basement.  I'm building garage out level with 1st floor, and current garage becomes layout room.

Joe, I use 1” Velcro strips from Hobby Lobby fabrics section, and glue short pieces of it to the fabric with something called Liquid Stitch, also from Hobby Lobby. The facing pieces are glued to the back side of the hardboard fascia with contact cement. The Liquid Stitch looks like white glue, but dries flexible and clear and can also be used to “hem” the bottom.
Hope this helps.

a few more 'tweaks' to the cab unit in the lead of this consist (I need to diminish the height of the yellow striping over the stainless steel grillwork.), but, for the most part, I'm pleased with this consist so far; I'm in the process of finishing the 217 lead unit of this LABC set.

One thing I have done to this, and will do to the remaining 3 LABC Freight sets in the queue, is to put these on 'new generation' Kato Decoder-ready mechanisms; much easier to remove body from mechanism when working with them. (I basically had to rebuild the pilot of 217C after I shattered it from excessive 'handling' - read: hamfisting the detailed body shell trying to remove it from the old mechanism - toothpicks, etc.) Using the newer mechanisms allows EASY body shell removal and only requires replacing the old porthole window glass with the new generation window glass (middle porthole must be shaved away on the Cab unit glass...)

I've installed a M-T 905 Z scale coupler in the pilot, and installed short shank Unimates on all the 'B' ends of the 4 unit set.

I've also painted the inside of the porthole 'glass' inserts flat black to simulate the dark interior of the cab body. Once I've finished the remaining cab unit, I'll gently weather them as a set.

I posed and ran them on a small oval of T-TRAK modules I set up in the Turquoise Room, while I work on a few more 'Southwest' themed modules.

Love the F units arbo.  Otto, the curtains really focus attention on the layout.  That's one of the many things on my to do list as well, but first things first: I'm starting the second of 3 crossovers needed to complete the Kern Junction complex.

The Peco turnout is there for a fit check.  It marks the transition between Bakersfield staging and the rest of the layout. I'm planning to put something like the Beale Ave overpass over that transition.  Sadly, this places the classic SP Bakersfield station on the staging side of the transition, but there's simply not enough room for everything.

I got my feet wet in N scale for the first time in a long time with the acquisition of a new locomotive for my diminutive Colorado Midland layout:

This is of course the Athearn version of the MDC/Roundhouse 2-8-0.  Based on a Northern Pacific F-1 prototype, it bares only the most rudimentary resemblance to anything the Colorado Midland ran, but this layout was built on a whim and is more of a fantasy thing than a prototype layout.

Ah, ok.  I looked at the other thread, but the stairs in those renderings confuse  me.  Also, there seems to be a basement window in the side of the new garage foundation, so I thought there was a basement under the garage.

But now I know where the layout will be located - thanks!
