My thoughts too.
I would recommend you apply some heat shrink tube over those long bare ends.

Over the past week I soldered up 30 slide switches for turnout control on the Anthracite layout. These will be used in conjunction with the Keystone Details slide switch adapters to control all my hand-throws (and they're ALL hand throws). I'm still waiting on some tubing to extend the switch a bit higher since they're kinda low when mounted in the holder. http://www.keystonedetails.com/keystone-customs/2016/9/12/30pk-dpdt-switch-mnt-for-n-scale-atlas-c55-turnout

good idea!  I wish 3D printers were around when I was screwing with all this!

Long time no post. 2019 was challenging in many ways, but I did get back to the layout room over the last few weeks.  I completed all but the last few feet of a combination No-lix and Wedding Cake helix, in order to gain 15" of elevation between decks. This week I installed the upper level backdrop and got two coats of blue paint on it yesterday.

Now, what project to tackle next? (So many to choose from!)

Ron,
WOW! Looking good!!!

Right?

I did a set like this for use on the old NCR Shelf Layout using cut down pieces of Atlas freight car boxes. It worked really well but was a total pain. @Lemosteam just made my life a HELL of a lot easier.

Oh, and even cooler? He's done pneumatic switch machines that fit right over the switches to give you something to hold onto. I don't need them for THIS project, but I've got a bunch for when I do.

Very nice!  I'm jealous. I have plans to do this myself.

What shell did you use?

It's Monday, but I did the work on the weekend.  Here's my model of NKP baggage-mail 831 (I think I've shown this car before) with newly fitted, correct, Pullman 242 trucks from @Lemosteam and Keystone Details.   The decal job predates the recent NKPTHS release of this car - it's a combination of Microscale and After Hours Graphics (out of print) decals, hence the variations in the shade of yellow.

Lighting isn't great, but you can make out at least the left truck pretty well.

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

Ed, I see that you left quite a length of the wire bare at the switch leads.  I hope that this doesn't cause problems later.

A quick and easy trick to keep it from becoming a problem is to have the hot glue gun nearby so you can add some good solid insulation before you install.

@Ed Kapuscinski Here they are.  I have them on my LIRRIS mainline and they work great!

For yours, I would get some 1/8" brass tubing maybe.  I would thread the spring wire through the extension and throw.

@Lemosteam, I'm curious, does the SPDT version of that switch also work?   It's a wee bit more $$, but looks like it would also work? same basic size, and same throw length.

Haha! That's EXACTLY what I did! It just showed up yesterday.

@diezmon If the dimensions are the same yes, but those contact tabs could be an issue if they come out the side.  There is a link to the switch I designed these for on the Shapeways page to compare dimensions.

I was always under the impression from so many posts here that DPDT were required for this type of thing, and I am not smart enough, electrically, to know the difference.

Sorta yes, but technically, no. SPDT is needed to route power to the frog. If you want anything else like a signal or feedback to a panel, you need the extra set of contacts, and therefore a DPDT.

Or to double up the contacts for extra reliability.
