New Zealand summer holidays mean some time off to finish up modelling projects.  These two Kaslo shops BCR Wide Vision Cabooses are now complete pending a few minor touch ups and look very much at home in Fort St John yard.







Week 2 of holidays will either be spent on more rolling stock projects or maybe a bit of scenery work on the layout.

I just finished up a stock car for my carnival train. Bill Denton did this casting from an old JnJ kit a while ago and I finally got around to working on it. I lowered it quite a bit and weighted it down pretty heavy as it will run in front of the flats and sleepers.  I added strip styrene to the sides for the lettering.  Decals are from Circus City Decals and Graphics.

This past week was spent getting my new DCC system installed so I can get the layout back up and running.  Here is the new LZV200 command station in place beneath the helix:




The new LH101 controllers in their holders on the fascia:




First test train into Chetwynd for track cleaning - the controller displays the functions activated which is a nice feature:




Alternatively the controller can display the built-in fast clock on the lower line.  Eng 607 and 581 arrive in Dawson Creek with the first test train:




Next up is work to repair or replace two turnouts which have been problematic for a long time, and preparations for installation of a fast clock system.

I finished up the irrigation system for my next corn field. Now I just need to plant about 20 boxes of Bluford corn -

I really love modeling piles of junk - mainly because it's just so idiot-proof. I mean, what, I'm going to screw it up and make it look less like junk?

I’m loving all of the BC Rail content. Those cabooses look amazing! 

I’ve made some progress on my Rutherford Creek module. I’m making my first ever attempt at scenery and it’s not as scary as I thought. I’m not totally pleased with how it looks in spots so I’m planning to make some alterations but at least I’m making progress.

Wrong!  They *ARE* held by the nylon clip (partially covered by your yellow circle).  The seemingly disorganized-looking shape of the wires also has an important purpose:   They are actually an antenna for Tim's 32GHz wirelss connection, and that specific shape is needed to maximize the antenna's gain.

In the early eighties I spent several months per year traveling globally visiting the local offices of international development agencies and examining their ICT systems, including networking, in order to resolve issues and improve performance. I certainly could have used this picture as a example of how wiring should be done. Kudos, well done sir. Good to see the labeling as well. As odd as this might sound, it made my morning seeing your work.

The wiring comments are amusing because with no knowledge of electronics or even electricity this was the one aspect of building a layout which I found particularly intimidating prior to starting, yet unexpectedly rewarding once completed (mainly because it all actually worked . . .)

Tim, I spotted two unkept wires!  Get to work and fix them!!!!   

The "unkept wires" supply power to the cooling fan for the command station which was temporarily moved to the shelf above in order to install the new command station.  It has since been remounted and now obscures this view.

If you are referring to the white labels on or near the wires, those were made on a labelmaker I purchased from our local electronics store.  It is a Dymo brand and the model is Rhino PRO 1000.  I was concerned about having to go back years later and try to remember what I had done when troubleshooting - so far I haven't needed to.
