I have a some of the Red Caboose autoracks, bought them on clearance some years ago. I wish I would of bought more. I still buy the ones Micro Trains is releasing lately when they have a paint scheme I want. I wish they came in more road numbers, though.

There's a balance. Around $50 is a reasonable price IMO, but some of the asking prices on a certain auction site are a bit outrageous. I've seen some Red Caboose autoracks recently go for over $80 a car, which is a bit high.

The Kato autoracks are of decent quality, in my opinion, and MSRP on a 4 car set is only $95.

Ah, so this was not about the MSRP prices (or discounted prices) of autorack models available from a hobby shop, but auction prices for out-of-production items.  So it sounds like your wish would be for manufacturers to produce a new run of autoracks, in a quantity larger than what will sell out in couple of weeks.

I suppose that's a fair way to put it, anyone simply making a substantial quantity would drive the prices down on older cars too, in my opinion. Supply and demand and everything.

A correct Conrail SD40-2.

What's your beef with the IM ones? Other than the trucks, of course (which, well, be patient).

Autoracks, of any manufacture that are quality. Trying to build up a handful of autoracks for a small train is a very expensive proposition these days.

Well, that pretty much eliminates Con-Cor then.  :D

ScaleTrains recently announced the Gunderson Multi-Max autorack for HO; according to ST staff they are "seriously considering" an N scale version.
Although the HO version will cost $74.99 each (with slightly lower prices for quantity buys), and judging by their multi-scale product history, the N scale version is priced equally to the HO version...

ST is doing the rivet counter at $74.99 and the Operators at $42.99, the difference being the detail under the car for the rivet counter. Atlas by the way is doing the same rack for $99.99 MSRP. I think the N-Scale version will be around $50, base on what the old RC cars cost at the time of release and a little inflation. The big thing with this cars are the metal edge panels like the RC cars is what makes them desirable.

The MT cars are nice but need to have the ride height adjusted because the used the same old 79’ flat car floor.

Forgive me for bringing this thread back from the archives, but had an interesting experience over the past couple days.

-SP B-50-15 boxcars (signature SP car - perfect for a kit manufacturer who isn't going to promise something, take $$,  then disappear off the face of the earth. An N version of Westerfield Models would be great!)
I would like to see these and many more of the road-specific cars from the 1920s.  I lost a few bucks in that deal, too. But only had a couple bought and paid for on the "preorder special price" so my financial exposure was limited.  Proved once again that a deal that seems too good to be true, is indeed too good to be true.

A couple days ago, I got an email saying that a shipment was on the way, and today my 2 boxcars arrived. I ordered them (IIRC) sometime in 2018, the maker's website closed sometime in 2019. So, although it took quite a while- Out of the Box has made good on their promise to me and I have in hand 3-D printed shells. Time notwithstanding, a very good value compared to comparable items from Shapeways. Truth is, I am not sure if these are B-50-15 or -16 (or if there is a visual difference between the two), or even what I specifically ordered, but they appear to be well done models.  I am going to let them sit in the sun a couple days to assure UV cure, but will post some photos when I get primer on them (which may be a while, sunny days not being plentiful lately).

I would like to add to my list:

For MT to do body mount couplers and lower ride height on all there cars.

For Kato to do the rest of the Superliner II cars and the Viewliner Diner.

For someone to produce a modern centerbean flat

I want to see headlights that are both bright and don't illuminate the entire cab. Scale Trains is close but the headlight is still too dim.
The fabric of reality has begun to fray.

@#$%^& shipsure...just don't call me late for desert.  I have this on my list.  not sure what we will do next.  Combine has been requested as are an assortment of dorm baggage, baggage dorms, dorms, baggages and flat cars.  :)

Joe

Dear Micro Trains:
For next Christmas how about a Pullman Solarium Car. This car was much more common in the 1940s and 1950s than open platform observation cars.  Thanks!

(@Shipsure - Joe I gave you plans for this car several years ago - let me know if you need them).

It's early but do you want to collaborate on something like this?  I will  want to do a couple of trolleys beyond the PCC.  If interested send a PM and we can start kicking around what you'd like and the research to get it off the ground. 8)  Photos are always good. :)
