Paint shop was busy last couple of days.  First up, a very early CSX ballast hopper, that they converted from a 2 bay covered hopper.  Made with a DI hopper and a ballast kit from defunct company Mocalova Model Works.

Next up, a couple of C44-9W went into the paint shop in primer, came out in CSX YN3.  Here's one after its gloss coat.  Maybe some time this weekend for decals.

Just finished up my Kato wheel axle press.
Parts used:-
1 x eBay watch pin press $2.62 free shipping from China
2 x off cuts from a micro engineering bridge deck which just happened to be the right thickness 2.7mm with a hole drilled in one piece and the other piece used as a backer to blind the hole.
1 x small off cut of oak hardwood to act as a spacer and account for the watchpin press’s anvil being beveled and not perpendicular to the press screw over its full length.
1 x aluminum nail put in the end of the press screw.

Result, repeatable axle adjustments for less than 3 bucks.

That itself was well worth an up-vote!

NS 39 painted and decaled. I really like how the generator behind the grill turned out.

This needs to be every cover photo in N scale magazine..... And this (kind of modeling) is how N scale needs to be shown to general model railroaders and people getting into the hobby.. to promote the scale...

You simply cant do this in HO without building your layout inside a vacant Walmart..

Great representation of an actual scene that just nails the look of the rural midwest. That same scene could likely be found in hundreds of places over thousands of square miles, and this looks and feels so ... right.

And also kudos to Bluford for making it easier, or even possible.

A few years ago, I bought a couple of Arnold SW1's when they were BOGOF. With the traction tires, the pickup is not so good, so I decided to see if I could wire them together with a plug. First was to replace the coupler on the cab end with unimates. I took a couple of IC sockets and IC extender to make the plugs. After doing this, these are the best set of switchers running on the layout. They will be to strip and decal for WP.

I installed a soundtrax non-sound decoder, then on both sides, I fished a piece of wire up through the frame where the truck wire comes up through and soldered them to the pc board. Drilled a hole in the shell, just large enough for the wire, soldered on the pin and socket.
