I'd rather trigger the rivet counters...

But true CN rivet counters do run freight power on their passenger trains... and have steam gennies...  :D

Because why not...

If most of the passenger train is only a general representation of the prototype, couldn't Kato just as well use their FP7A/F7B models to emulate CN FP9A/F9B units?

On a "stand in" model, which trade-off would you be more likely to accept - an extra headlight or the lack of steam generator details?

Easier to add steam generator detail than fill in a headlight opening.

Suppose that doing neither one of those was an option for you?

Except that CN used freight service F7s on passenger trains so it isn't a "Stand in". It was the best choice considering the Kato catalog...

When did CN adopt HEP for passenger equipment?  I am assuming they did at some point.

Well into the VIA Era, late 1980s early 1990s...

Rapido is doing the passenger FP9A and F9B's for this train, so you can just buy the seven car set... unless of course you want the freight units for other purposes. Or run the F&'s on this without a steam generator car and trigger people.

Looking at the Rapido site, I don't see a F9 B unit. You know something we don't?

Ryan:  Does that train have four steam generator cars?

If so, maybe that's why they used the freight Fs.  If it only needs two units to pull it, but four steam generators to keep it warm, there's no use putting four passenger units on it just for the steam.  The generator cars would be cheaper than another pair of Fs.

No, they're inexplicably (to me at least) not doing the B units. I should have asked Dan why when I was there in December but forgot.
