Southern RR steam

I thought I stumbled across a photo while looking at Southern's steam roster, a locomotive that was not an articulate but something like a 2-8-0 with another drive unit under the tender much like the triplex engines had but only two engines rather then three .   I seen it very briefly and lost the photo on line due to a pop up.   Does this ring a bell, was I imagining it ?  Anyone, anyone ?

Here you go.  It appears there may have been at least two: Nos. 4537 and 4576:

http://southern.railfan.net/images/archive/southern/steam/282/sou4537.html

http://southern.railfan.net/images/archive/southern/steam/282/sou4576.html

Hope this helps,
DFF

P.S. Anything you can do to reduce the size of the photo in your signature in each post?  While it is a nice photo, it's huge and can be distracting in the midst of other posts.

Southern 5046 was a duplex 2-10-2 with a 2-6-2 mechanism under the tender:

Thanks guys, i knew i wasn't going nuty when i just seen one of them in a flash. I see there were two different type as well. Be a good kit bash project.

BTW, I too been wondering how to reduce the photo with each of my post but haven't had any luck at it. Yes it is annoying to me too, sorry.

Don't paint the cab roof or tender deck red.

One way to reduce the size of the picture would be to use a photo editor, create a smaller version, upload that to Railwire's Gallery, then edit your profile to link to the new image.

I don't know what operating system you have, but Windows XP, and probably newer versions, came with a photo editor that should work, and I'm sure that MS Paint, also a Windows utility, would do the job.

Here's one I did, shrunk about 50% along the width while preserving the aspect ratio.  You can probably grab it off the screen by doing a "Save Image As".

Better yet, here's one with a little judicious cropping on my part.

@propmeup1@verizon.net,

This may help.  Back before the Photobucket debacle, links from Photobucket seemed to be the wrong size, and I figured out how to fix them.  You can adjust the size of a photo merely by typing certain information into the "img" link.  Please note that I replaced the brackets [ ] with { }, so the links would show:

For example, I took this photo from @MK's post above and used the Gallery to upload the photo.  Now, {img}https://www.therailwire.net/forum/gallery/13/1292-151119101448.jpeg{/img} shows as this:

But, if you add "width=175 height=131" to the link as follows:

{img width=175 height=131}https://www.therailwire.net/forum/gallery/13/1292-151119101448.jpeg{/img}

 . . . you get this:

Now, I guessed at those pixel numbers of 175 and 131.  You can pick any size you want.  I kept it on a ratio of 1 unit of width to 0.75 units of height.

Hope this helps,
DFF

You only need to use width= OR height= to adjust the size. It maintains the aspect ratio and better yet, you don't need to do any math to get there.

Whoah, those things look goofy.  Were they really, really slippery, especially when low on water?

Southern 5046 was a duplex 2-10-2 with a 2-6-2 mechanism under the tender:

Looks like a poorly executed kitbash - if a modeler raised the tender that much he'd be laughed outta the room. :lol:

Here's a sister unit - I think these are really good looking steamers:

So there were 2-8-2+2-8-0 and  2-10-2+2-6-2

That's wild...
Never knew such things existed..
