At one time or another I converted the Atlas cars to the early version simply by shaving the end ribs and replacing with shaved and sanded Plastruct channel.
I don't even know if I have those any longer.  I'll need to check and see.

Found it.
Actually, this is much older than I thought.  This model was done in the early 90's at a time when I was still modeling relatively new Post-Merger BN.
This was pre-Atlas Trainman.  The car was a Bachmann 3 bay PS-2 that I cut down to two bays, thinned the ladders with an Xacto blade and file and used a thinned MT running board.
I think the only decal source at that time may have been Northeast or some other company.  Consequently, the lettering is not very sharp and a little bulbous.
I'm surprised I still had it and even found the other later one I had done as well.  It didn't have trucks attached though.

It will probably be available before IMRC's ACF 2927.

Hmm, all the road names for these are listed as "Pending Cancellation". But the undec is "Confirmed for Production".

I see these have shipped and are showing up on EBay.  Anyone have one in hand yet, for a Railwire take on it?  GN or WP are  not particularly of interest to me, so I’m holding off for now.  It looks good in the photos I’ve seen, new metal wheels perhaps?

Ha! I imagine so!  They look very nice in the pics I’ve seen, thanks for the effort.  I’m feeling obligated to get a GN now!

I'm on board with the undec...it would have to be unassembled though...if that is ok.  Our other cars are un assembled as well, this is pretty fragile so protecting loose parts is a concern.

Actually unassembled undecorated cars are the best, since they would have to be disassembled for painting anyway.

So unlike the old days when undecorated cars were available, they were packaged in the jewel box and a nest inside.  Or going back even earlier, some were packaged in blister packaging without a jewel box.  Since MTL no longer seems to use cardboard-back blister packaging, these would have to be likely packaged in a clam-shell box?

Unassembled is much preferred.  Saves a lot of time and effort (and possible breakage) if we don't have to disassemble a model for painting and detailing.  About 1/3 of the MTL passenger cars I have, plus several freight cars, came as undec/unassembled "kits".
As to packaging, all the undecs I've received in the past 15 years or so came in the same jewel box as the finished cars. Small parts usually packaged inside the carbody, and carbody, floor and trucks in the "nest".  Never had a broken part. That said, I could see where 3D printed parts or delicate etchings might require a different packaging, or some sort of padding or reinforcement.
Tom D.

I have a mind like a steel trap...a VERY rusty, old steel trap.

My GN car arrived today and got it out of the box and on the layout. Very nice is my initial impression.
