The trucks on the Milwaukee yellow and gray Super Dome should be gray or silver not black.

Are the trucks different on the Kato vs. the Intermountain?  The Intermountain seems more accurate for the prototype picture I posted.  Did the trucks get changed at some point in the cars lifetime?

Definitely two different styles of GSC truck, but I don't the what/when of it all.

The Kato truck is a GSC Commonwealth 61-RDO, which I've seen on Santa Fe cars -

I've only seen the IMRC truck on Milwaukee Road cars, but I haven't done an exhaustive search -

Bart,
would it be possible to take a picture of the dome "glass" with it turned upside down?  I'm curious whether I was correct that it is a solid clear piece with the framing done in paint, or is the framing a separate piece.

Peteski,

Here are the photos of the dome. It may be hard to tell from the photos, but the frame is done with paint.

Thanks Bart - that is what I suspected (not that there is anything wrong with that).

Prototype photo for reference.

Andrew, which prototype is this?  Kato or IM Super Dome?    It has the prominent silver frames around the windows which are present on the Kato model.  So are there 2 distinct Super Dome prototypes, and each is correctly depicted by each model company? Or IM and Kato both supposed to be representing the same car?  Obviously I'm not an expert on those cars - but curious.

Both domes represent the same Milwaukee/CN car.
The silver frames are present on all of them...

Makes me feel a little happier about my Kato car 😎

If both are depicting the same prototype, it is interesting just how different both models are. And not just in detail, but the shape of the roof, and the dome itself.

Yes, same prototype, very different looking.  I'm leaning Kato (which I have).  I'm still curious about the trucks though.  Did Kato just re-use those from the Santa Fe dome or were the Milwaukee Road domes delivered with one and later switched to the other.

The Milwaukee domes road on specially designed GSC trucks. I can't find a reference to a specific model or design.

In my digging I also found a reference on p. 263 of Jim Scribbons "the Hiawatha story" that should be of interest to @C855B 😊

In addition the cars were used on the City of Denver between Chicago and Denver, and between Cheyenne (Wyo.) and Ogden (Utah) on the Union Pacific for one summer.

Trucks did NOT change on The Milwaukee Super Domes. Kato simply used the trucks from the Santa Fe El Cap Diner on the Super Domes. Intermountain tooled the correct truck.

I'd appreciate someone taking that image of both cars and lightening the area below the belt so the trucks are more easily seen.  I agree with Bill that the MILW's should be silverish.

The GN cars had the same trucks as the ATSF.
