I love the backdrop and I really love the junk!

You're inspiring me to want to clutter up Ridgway on my RGS a whole lot more.

I’m glad you like your radial arm saw. I got rid of mine... worked ok as a chop saw, but not for ripping. Much easier for me on a conventional table saw or even a hand circular “skill” saw with a fence. But YMMV, so don’t listen to anyone if it works best for you.

Whenever I hear about Radial Arm Saws, this is the only thing I think about.

The jury is still out on the RAS, the primary reason for choosing it over the table saw is space.  If I can easily rip a sheet of plywood without having to set up out feed tables and wot not every time I want to rip something (then put them up) I figure I'm ahead of the game.  I think it's all in a very well set up saw and table/fences.  Of course the bulk of my cutting will be cross cuts.

Thanks Dave!
Lol, I hope you are referring to the layout and not the layout room!!

I love clutter and junk, I think it's what makes a scene a little more believable.

Bingo! The only time I tried to rip a 1” strip off a 6’ 2x4, I lost my nerve about half way through, thinking wtf am I doing here! I carefully reached up & shut it off, never to try that $hit again. Ended up an expensive cross cut chop saw with less accuracy. Was constantly losing it’s 90° accurately. Hand circular saw with a speed square is more accurate.

I watched this video before I purchased the saw, as well as a ton of others.  Apparently there are a lot of RAS haters out there and as many who love them.  LOL, I certainly don't plan on cross cutting at disembowelment level.... ever, or any of the other brochure advertised crazy cuts.  I have a track saw jig for wide cross cuts.

I picked up the saw fairly inexpensively and so far I've had no issues with it losing it's 90 degree accuracy.  If it proves too dangerous to rip a sheet of plywood I will have a nice cross cut and miter station.  The ripping I've done so far didn't seem any scarier or more dangerous than on a table saw.  Again, it's all in how well set up your fences are and if the saw is square and/or parallel  with the fence.  Having a sacrifice pusher is also a must, one long enough that you can easily clear the saw.  In the video he kinda makes a beg deal about the saw climbing the wood.  I certainly will be surprise if this heavy b@$T@rd climbs up on anything.  It's bolted to the bench which is secured to the wall, with zero play in the 100lbs cast iron arm. I know it can happen, but I think it will be unlikely with a negative hook blade.

 8) I plan on keeping my bowels and my fingers!!

Thanks Rod,
As I recall it was you who sent me looking for the videos on how to do it.  I still have a ways to go but I'm very encouraged to keep at it.

I spent some time this weekend doing some scenery work.  Mostly I worked on the "Town" section of the layout, trying to bring everything together.
You can see I have even started ballasting the track... always fun.  I went with N scale and HO scale Arizona Rock & Minerals "Cumbres & Toltec" Ballast

For the dirt I used Arizona Rock & Minerals "Cumbres & Toltec Earth."  It may be a little too dark for Colorado but I really like it.

Here we can see the Log Cabin Country Boys gigging downtown.  Stu is having a smoke and cursing the fat fingered giant that broke his sign...Again.

Thank you, I still have a few more ideas on scenes to develop.  I have about a quarter more of the module to complete including some cattle pens.  I hope to be 90% complete or better by the end of this month.
