I do believe the Grand Trunk Western decal should be on the side of the long hood, not on the sill.

We had a thread on this very subject.

To summarize, the sill lettering is the original scheme, hood lettering was later.

Following up on the earlier post.  It was a weekend packed to the rafters.

First I built some more li'l bobbers.

Then I picked up a hitchhiker

And then I sold a locomotive...

So I could by more sketchy old locomotives at Timonium.

Having swapped good money for bad, we took our parcels and went to lunch.

We successfully caught a train to photograph, because it wasn't moving, even a little bit.

Seeking quality lodgings for the night, we drove to New Jersey.  The host was friendly and gracious, and built the house entirely from scratch using parts leftover from the last micro layout he built...

We celebrated our victory with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres.  Then more coctails, and ma few more cocktails.

This wasn't what we were having, but it should give the general ethos of the morning after.

We lost @davefoxx, so we played trains for a bit.

Now I'm home checking my eyelids for holes...

Thank you Ryan, exactly so.  The original pair of passenger geeps were 1766 and 1767.  The best information I can find (combination of books, blogs and anecdotal) is that they were renumbered in April 1956 to 4900 and 4901, but otherwise remained in the original paint scheme.  In 1957, when the new order was delivered, one (4900) was repainted with the single line logo on the hood, identical to the new order.  In 1958 or 59, coincident with another order of geeps being delivered, 4901 was painted in the two line logo used on that delivery (it may have been painted before the delivery to test the 2 line logo scheme).  While this is subject to correction if/when I find better sources, I do feel I've done due diligence until such time as a photo with verifiable date proves otherwise.

The burning question is, did you and Phil spoon, or was he relegated to sleeping on my cot?

Got a little green paint and roof work done. I spent most of the weekend installing barn doors in my girlfriend's basement.

Interesting how different the green is between ModelFlex and Tru-Color.

That's a ravine. The house is built in the rectangle behind my hand in the photo Lee posted, and that's a precise N Scale model of my property's topography.

I built my house at the top of the ravine, and it follows the slope partway down. Here's a wintertime view so you get a better sense of the landforms.

The house is on three levels, each separated by a flight of stairs. It's also fairly small, with ~850 sq. ft. of living space.

The garage and front door are on the top level, the train room and office on the second, and the main living space is on the third.

You can read all about it in excruciating, bleeding-eye detail here: http://davidksmith.com/home/index.htm

To keep things on-topic (sort of), the layout I'm building here is this: http://davidksmith.com/modeling/reading-central/rcr-6.htm

Have you ever read any books by Alex Wade? He was an architect designing energy efficient small homes (mostly) for the self-builder about 30 years ago.

My design came together as a consequence of having studied various architectural/construction approaches for the last 40-50 years through random books and magazines (Alex Wade not among them), and also having worked for energy conservation companies. Was most influenced by architect David K. Burton and contemporaries, and only vaguely by FLW. Also had discussions a while back with our own @wm3798.

Very cool.  Where did you find such a detailed topo map?  Not from USGS...

When you buy raw, undeveloped land, it's always recommended to have the property surveyed before building--especially if there are wetlands.
