    • Trying to model the BCR Fort St John BC (again)...while living in Australia (what could possibly go wrong?)

565 and 571 are largely complete after final decals and application of weathering (quite heavy, but consistent with the prototype photos I worked from).   Just waiting on a few detail parts to arrive from overseas, then a touch more weathering on the underframes, cab window glazing and they will be finished and put aside for decoder installation at a later date.

Lots more modelling projects lined up on my desk so not sure what to work on next.

I randomly decided to check my profile info on my account tonight.

Apparently this is my 13 yr anniversary of signing up on The Railwire! :o
I'm pretty proud of that!  :D
You  :ashat: :ashat: :ashat: have been a great group of constantly inspiring modelers! Spookshow more than proved the point tonight with his stunning model!
Thanks for all the years everyone!

I did get a few more cars weathered.
Here's 1 Before and After.
It was weathered with the AK weathering pencils and some bragdon powders. I like it!

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the kind words!

OldEastRR - unfortunately, no, it's no longer served by the railroad. There's a disused siding on the backside, which I did model (although since you can't really see it back there I didn't expend a whole lot of effort on it) -

I may decide to turn back the clock on all that one of these days (tear up the main and add a turnout), but at least for now it's strictly a trucking operation.

Those turned out really nice. Great job!

Cornfields?

Mark - looks like you have a cornfield in the background?  If so, can you say how you made it?  I can't tell if it is part of the backdrop or not.

That's strictly the backdrop, Bob. However, there will eventually be large fields of corn in the foreground (to the left and right of the facility), which is going to make Bluford Craig a very wealthy man  :P

Very nice Andy.  Jeff makes a part for the bells on he front left corner of the carbody (perhaps you are waiting on them).  Decals for the number boards?

Some more experiments with oil paint weathering on some old Roundhouse box cars;

- A mix of various brown washes on the sides
- Neat oils on the roof which are streaked with a thinners dampened brush
- Powders on the under frame

And all sealed with the usual spray of dullcote.

Pretty much done detailing this Cargill facility. I just need Trainworx to hook me up with some 53' trailers.

This is a frakking great scene. I seriously thought this image was proto...

After I studied it for a while (when I recovered) I realized the only giveaway was the tree. Barely.

This week's highlights were finishing an "out of the paint shop" Triniity 50' plate F boxcar and the STLs of GE FB-3 trucks for the C40-8 project.  The FBOX decals are home-made inkjet decals with separately applied white backgrounds for the TTX logo and COTS stencil.  Also, since inkjet red is not opaque enough, the actual "Next Load" red is printed magenta, which plus the yellow background makes a close-enough red for the logo.  The blue is a little dark but passable as well.. I'm planning on adding weathering and some graffiti later on.   - Jesse

What I especially appreciate about Spookshow's Cargill facility is the lack of compression.  The proportions are all correct.   Great job Mark

Thanks, Curtis. Fortunately, I had plenty of room to work with (since that section of my layout had originally been slated to be the outskirts of a small town). And now that we have an amazing tool like Google Earth at our disposal, getting accurate measurements (at least for length and width) is dead simple.

I also figured that the bigger I made it, the less corn I'd need for the surrounding area  :D

Thanks, DKS. I gotta give most of the credit to the photo backdrop, as it adds an incredible amount of realism. That and the fact that I finally switched from warm fluorescent lighting to cool white. It's hard on the eyes, but it does make layout photos look much more outsidey.
