My interest is piqued by a new paint scheme on the NE-5 caboose.

I have given up on them completely. Their new status page is meaningless. Now if either Atlas or Intermountain producers a product I want to buy, I will.  When they make products they are quality products. I am just done with preordering from both.  I am also not interested in what they may or may not make in the next 18-24 months.

And I keep wondering if/when they'll ever release NE-5s and NE-6s in the old NH paint scheme --- who keeps advising them to do only McGinnis era paint? I bought a BLW close-out NE5 for $18 and repainted it rather than wait forever.  Thank god they're not doing the single window coach: I'd NEVER see that in NH 1951 colors....

Atlas has released six road-numbers of the NE-6 in the as-built scheme, more than any other NE-6 scheme.  They will get to the scheme on the NE-5 at some point, most likely in the third run.

Also — Atlas has released more New Haven product by far than any other manufacturer, including Rapido.  To date, on every Atlas model prior to the NE-5 that is prototypical or near-prototypical for NH, they have released every possible prototypical scheme for those models — including planned schemes that never came to fruition in real life.  Sure, it would have been nice to see the as-built scheme in the first or second release.  But it's not as if it isn't going to get done.  It's a popular scheme and you need to have popular road/schemes every time you release a model.  And as you indicated, you always can paint your own.

As an aside — you're not likely to see the Single Window Coach from Micro-Trains appear in pre-New Image colors for a while either.  The first NH release will be New Image (McGinnis).  NH New Image does much better for MTL than Dulmaine-era schemes.

CORRECTION — Atlas has not yet released the DF scheme on the PS-1, but it's in their plans.

March 2004 (2 numbers)

May 2008 (2 numbers)

There was also a run in September 2015 that may have been the same scheme (no pictures on Atlas' site)

Atlas has been kind to the less popular roads, as far as my own interests I think they have produced more Soo Line models then almost everyone else combined...

Thanks @Atlas Paul  8)

You know, the Atlas product archive is online with photos. It doesn’t take much effort to look it up.

It's easier to complain to the internet 😎

If they ever run out of new product ideas, there's always the private railcar that McGinnis used:
