Honestly before you build anything I'd set up a loop of track and run whatever Nn3 loco you have to make sure your happy with that.

Oh yes, that has been done. I picked up my MT #5 over a year ago, broke her in, and it now runs pretty nicely. I’ve got it reliably down to 15 SMPH. I know it’s still a bit fast for the prototype, but it’s slow enough that it will take real time to traverse the planned loops and curves.



Hey @Shipsure how about a rerun that includes #9? :D

Not planning to. There were several in Idaho Springs, but this layout isn’t really meant to be ops-centric. I think the point-to-point design will provide just enough uncoupling/coupling/shifting to keep it interesting if I want to operate, and the continuous running option allows for roundy-rounding if I just want to railfan.

Got to plugging away at the plan for a bit.  I had two goals: Improve visibility up Clear Creek under the Devil's Gate Viaduct, and increase the distance between the hidden track and the "to Denver" track at the lower left side of Como to reduce the grade of the eventual landform.



I lose the siding in Idaho Springs, which is where I was going to keep the passenger train.  I might keep it there anyway, since the hidden line is just a continuous running contingency, and I can easily move it.
