I like it, Ed!  I do note that there is no passing siding, but the sidings all face in one direction.  Is that prototypical?

Oh, and any loss of negative space between West Cressona and the Double Truck Dump is probably more than made up for at Moonscape.

Haha, prototypical? Well, this is really more like many micro LDEs glued together, so the orientation can be done in the way that works easiest.

After operating a layout that's "nice" with regards to sidings, and after reviewing prototype operating procedures (work everything in one direction when you're going that way, the do the rest coming back), I can sleep easily with it.

And, sir, that is all that matters.   :)

Really diggin this new version. I feel like it's a much more efficient use of space.

My recon trip up to "The Skook" prompted me to make some changes to the layout plan. I REALLY wanted to get Good Spring in there and I realized I could pass on Weigh Scales.

It took me a while to figure out how to pull it off, but I think this does it. It ALSO explains a bit of my scenery plan.

Ed, Just my personal opinion, but I think the "New" plan is 100% better than the old plan.

Edit: Nevermind, I see you're combining that into the Zehners siding.

Don't forget the team track near Good Spring that got a reefer or two of potatoes,

Oh yeah!

Today siding has taken on a new role after seeing that particular operation in action.

I can't find it but I found a picture of the reefer at the team track with the ramp and a trailer pulled up to the edge. I think they unloaded right into the trailer,

Oh yeah. Seemingly right in someone's back yard too. While we were up there scouting it out I got a chance to see them in action.

Hey Ed, I don't know if you haven't heard of it, you should look up a layout called the Slate Fork Branch. It's a Southern Railway coal branch set in late winter/early spring, and it's built on a HCD. Reminds me a lot what you are doing here.

Mocked up the new version of the turnback area that includes Good Spring.

I can definitely live with this!

Not photo worthy, but last night I glued down all my pinned down cork.

I still have half the layout to cork, but I'm waiting to resolve my curved switch situation before I do that.

Then you can slather everything in a layer of olive drab paint. See the latest column by Tony Koester in MR.
He calls it the perfect base coat for Appalachian area scenery. Plus, it gives the layout something of a finished look while construction progresses.

That's a good point. I usually do something similar with cheap brown or tan craft paints. Or my new real love: Tree Trunk from Valspar!

It's like Go Away Green.
