Period Miniatures Berghoff Brewery build...

Recently I inherited a couple of locomotives, freight cars and two out of production craftsman kits. Among them was a Period Miniatures Berghoff Brewery kit, that appears to be missing the window glazing.

Does it fit in to the Southern California scene? Does it look like it can produce a car full of beer? No, but it is a brewery and a cool, retro kit, and at 3.5"x6", it's tiny.

Now for the hardest part of the build, what color should it be?

If you have the line drawing plan that is part of the instructions, that is probably worth more than the whole kit.

That was the first wood kit I ever completed- something like 40 years ago. My recollection is that it had different branding (not a "Period Miniatures" kit, but otherwise identical), but I could be wrong.  Still have it in a box somewhere, waiting for the "next" layout.  Think it is painted weathered light brown with green trim and a green water tank.  Probably missing some bits.  What I do remember about it was that it was actually a whole kit- as opposed to many of the "kits" of those days that were essentially scratchbuilding parts and some random castings  (I failed with several)- and assembly was pretty straightforward.

If you want a model of the real brewery (as rebuilt after the fire of 1888) a good starting place might be the DPM modulars, judging from the graphic at the top of this page-

Best place to drink Berghoff beer is at the Berghoff restaurant in Chicago- I don't know if the founders of the 2 are related.

I have a mind like a steel trap...a VERY rusty, old steel trap.

That's what I did for the Highlander Brewery in Missoula.

The Berghoff Brewery kit was originally produced by the now defunct, Dimi-Trains, as stock numbers DT-100 and 1000 (i.e., in later releases).

Period Miniatures acquired the artwork, licensing rights, molds and production masters (i.e., for the cast metal detail parts), and production plates (i.e., for printing the artwork on the kits' basswood sheet components) for the Berghoff Brewery, Mel's Produce (Dimi-Trains stock number 1001), and Freight Depot (Dimi-Trains stock number 1002) kits from Dimi-Trains.

It's wood, why cover it. Weather the wood and keep it like that (imagine old, unpainted barn).

1. I want to try a different technique compared to what I used on my other buildings, I  want peeling wood.
2. It's raining so no painting

Available in a range of colors, have you tried Hunterline's alcohol based Weathering Mix stains?
