The Special Shapes thin-walled brass tubing (the beautiful small sizes that had .006" walls as opposed to the standard K&S .014") disappeared from all the hobby and hardward stores at least 5 years ago by my recollection. The hobby store owners all told me that they weren't making it anymore and I never saw the thin-wall come back. There is Albion Alloys now, and thankfully, they make an even wider assortment of even thinner-walled tubing. They also have smaller diameters in their range than Special Shapes ever had. Here is a page from Des Plaines Hobbies that shows a lot of Albion's range:http://www.desplaineshobbies.com/store/search/brand/Albion-Alloys/page4.html
Don't think you're gonna get a good screw from a place called "smallparts.com." You overestimate our collective maturity.
Not just thin wall brass tubing.
Thanks to everyone for the feedback. Some good information was disseminated, even some good off-topic info about thin-wall tubing that was useful. And I didn't even catch flack for not posting this in the "Hardware" forum. (Hardware forum creation in 3.....2.....)
Wow! I will happily surrender my "Resident Curmudgeon" title to you.
Seriously, what is so wrong with having separate sections for certain topics? It sure makes things easier to find than if it all went into one giant bucket. Is it really *THAT* mentally taxiing to handle this?
Unlike you, I don't consider that a badge of honor. And it certainly isn't something I proudly express as a life goal. The only thing I'm "angry" about (angry being the term used to describe a curmudgeon, along with "old"...angry is not the word I would use to describe my take on this.) is you ruining the experience for me and a lot of other folks on this forum. (and yes, I have a truckload of PM's and personal "misery loves company" emails to back up this claim.) . On most forums, there is nothing wrong with it. Most forums don't have a wannabe moderator/dictator that has to go "Rainman" on everyone when they don't do things exactly how he wants them done. As I stated in another post, there are topics that don't squarely fit into one bucket only...most normal people see this and realize it and move on with their lives. It gets really exhausting with your policing of everything...it's a hobby, we simply just want to post crap and enjoy like-minded individuals posting crap. I know, I know....as long as it's "Manny Being Manny" (baseball reference) or "Peteski being Peteski" we're just supposed to ignore it and it's fine right? Sort of like preceding a sentence with "No offense" right before you offend someone. (or "Bless Your Heart" for us southern folk when you're about to tell someone how stupid they are.) . So, I'll stop short of the last (?) poster that called you out. (Mr. "What everyone else is thinking...shove it" Guy) Doesn't seem like you even care how you treat other people anyway, so it's probably not much use aside from blowing off a little steam.
If you dislike me - so be it.
Ha, I'm *shocked* that you think you can control whether or not I'm allowed to dislike you. That's rich. But make no mistake, this wasn't an "instant dislike"....I left the forum for sometime and you were "that guy" back then too. Manny being Manny...yeah, you add value, (yep, I said it) but the rest far outweighs the positives....so, eggshells and pity.
I have to admit, I never thought hiding behind moderator status would be your play. That's downright funny.
Gentlemen, please play nice or take it offline. It's okay that not everyone likes each other, so long as we treat each other with a modicum of respect. This hobby attracts a very interesting spectrum of personalities--mine included--and clearly some are less compatible with others. That's okay. We all like trains though.
you might as well end this silly exchange (oops, I forgot - I can't control you). Or, if I bother you so much, just set your profile to ignore my (oops, here I go telling you what to do). Whatever.
