Kato PRR rerun

I'm in for the 20th Century Ltd. set!  Been waiting for decades. But if Kato produced the Dreyfus Hudson, the 20th Cent. Ltd. would sell even better than with Diesels.  However I know that Kato has its hands full with the Big Boy.  Hey,  maybe in the future release there will be another run with the steam engine? One can hope.

Rather unlikely that you'd see a steam loco leading the 1948 version of the 20th Century Ltd., considering that the E7 locos had arrived in 1945.
If it did happen, the loco would probably no longer have its full Dreyfuss streamlining still intact.

Is the 1938 consist that different from the one Kato is producing?  I'm  not an expert on NYC - I just love the way that train looks, and like to own a model of it.

Paint scheme and observation car windows would be the most obvious differences.
Some sleeper cars had different configurations.

That's what I suspected. And fortunately a paint scheme is something that is easily changed between runs.  Still hoping for the 1938 version (eventually).

I also noticed different trucks on each train.  The 1938 uses "Napoleon Hats" trucks, while the later one uses more standard looking trucks.  Fortunately Kato already makes the "Napoleon Hats" trucks (or something very similar) for their SP Morning Daylight.

Looks like all of the BM70m cars in this run have the same road number, 6565, so I renumbered one of my cars. Next stop, paint shop for some weathering.

They're available at MBKlein now.  DGLE and Tuscan GG1's, 10-car sets, 4-car add ons and the ATSF sleeper.

Correct.  Looking this up in "The Twentieth Century Limited" by Richard Cook, all 10 of the Dreyfuss Hudsons were bumped off the "Century" in 1945, and were de-streamlined by the end of 1947.  They were all scrapped in the mid 1950s (between 53-56).   The book isn't exactly clear on what became of each of them after they went off the "Century", but I can only assume they got bumped to secondary passenger trains or freights.

This was always one of my favorite locomotives (and passenger trains!) too.  It only existed for 7 years from 1938 to 1945.  And if I'm being honest, I have to admit that if not for WWII, they probably would have been bumped out of premier service way before 1945.

After what appeared to be unimpressive sales of the initial run, it will be interesting to see how well this run sells.

MBKlein's down to 14 of the 10-car set from 69 when I first looked.  8 of the 4-car add on and 4 of the ATSF sleeper.  Selling well I'd say.  I bet Kato made a smaller run this time though.

I ordered mine from my old shop in Cincinnati.  A few dollars more (especially considering the extra 5% off for President's Day) but still a good price.

I received mine on Monday, but just returned from a work trip yesterday. Had enough time to get to get them out of th box, but that’s about it. Newborns tend to do that. But they looked good sitting on the track at least.

Any suggestions for which lighting kit to use on these cars?

Yes, lighting kits. I ask again: anybody know how to get the 11-214 warm LED light kits? The usual suspects don't stock them.

11-214, Incandescent appearance LED kits. They look fantastic with them installed. The 11-212 kits are just too blue, and contrast horribly with the brown. NB: Brown is really just another name for dark orange!
