They've also announced a re-run of the GG1, in both 5-stripe DGLE and 5-stripe Tuscan.

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

Well, that's cool!  I'd be interested in some of the cars for use in the Spirit of St. Louis.

Speaking of which:

This is a good idea, and I would also mention to folks that the duplex dormitory-diner might be another one to add to the beg list.  These sets ended up on other trains like the Spirit of St. Louis, Jeffersonian, and Cincinnati Limited, among others.

As I am as well. For the same trains even. Now to find someone to split a set up with. Or just wait for someone splitting the sets up on an auction site.

I would also love to see them do the E8s in DGLE. Seems like a no brainer, epically since they’re doing the GG1 in DGLE.

Kato is now taking pre-orders of just the BM70M (as well as the GG1 pantographs).

Of course they are!  Because I don't need them anymore...

While gorgeous, Kato pantographs (and not just the GG1 ones) are useless if you actually want to have a catenary on your layout.  They are neither sprung, nor stabilized/equalized (whatever is the proper term).  That is why the "real" operators end up ordering and using Bachmann GG1 pantographs. While not quite as nice lookign as Kato units, those are fully functional.

For some reason I preordered one of the loose baggage cars. And a set of pans.

Why? I guess I was bored waiting for my flight to take off?

Or maybe I haven't gotten this out of my system yet:

(as well as the GG1 pantographs).

Why pantographs? Do the new ones have a metal panhead to make an electric contact?

Seriously, I would not expect truly working pantos from Kato (to actually pickup power from the overhead wire), but it would have been nice if they actually could contact and follow the wire, and not tilt forward or backward.

Didn't Kato have working pans years ago? I seem to remember in my N trak days some of the guys having Kato (obviously Japanese or European) electrics with the option of cat power...

Kato pantos on U.S. models have always been cosmetic items.

They have produced several European prototype models of electric trains (for Lemke) which used typical metal functioning pantographs typically used on European models, but not any U.S. prototype models.  But I don't think those can actually be used to pick up power (but they will follow the wire). At least on some of those models I own - I would have to dig them out to verify.

This is true.  However, usually only one pantograph is raised, so the Kato pantographs still serve a purpose by serving as the lowered appliance. while the Bachmann equivalent can serve as the active one.

The parts are tough to come by from both manufacturers, so it's best to grab them whenever they are made available.

You must have missed it - they're shown as arriving in Feb/Mar 2019.

Pre-order though.  So you will get all that you want if you order by the 8/26 deadline.  That's a very good deal.  People have been asking for BM70M cars for years, and now everyone will be satisfied.
