Having had to deal with - principally - the UP, somewhat with the BNSF, and occasionally with NS and KCS (you track cars how?) in a previous life, I have a few treasured memories of how a 150 year old bureaucracy with a railroad acts. Remember, you can't spell stupid without UP.

The most amusing, after the filter of time and distance has been applied, is receiving a number of pictures of my cars strewn about the Kansas countryside and occupying prime real estate at the bottom of a creek with the comment from the UP "a lot of track damage".

No, UP's intransigent bureaucracy is 168 years old, as the Mop's primary predecessors were founded starting in 1851. The post-1982 UP is MP in a yellow dress. The sucking sound you heard after the "merger" was UP's senior managers (the experienced railroaders) running for the exits, grabbing their retirement packages before Mop's (and UP's) MBA wiz-kids dismantled their golden parachutes.
