Awesome to see the tie train come to Z-scale!

Indeed. @Shipsure any way we could get this in Chessie livery?

I'm curious - how did MTL depict the unpainted aluminum body for the H-47a - silver paint?

Yes, silver paint.

I have the first run and in my opinion, the model looks great. :)

The only thing I am wondering about is the fact that Micro-Trains sometimes uses extended coupler boxes and sometimes short ones. There seems to be no rule. Perhaps they use what is on hand at the factory?

I'll put it on the table tomorrow.

Thanks for the suggestion

What trains could be modeled with the Northern Pacific heavyweights?

The Mainstreeter, or at least a part of it?

If I were an NP modeler, I would feel almost honor bound to do Locals 57 & 58- the trains modeled in HO (and not particularly accurately) in the Oct 1987 Model Railroader.  If the MT cars had been available in those days, I might be an NP modeler today.  All it would take would be a paired window coach or 2 and a mail-baggage car (I haven't kept up on which cars have been done in NP and which are yet to do).  Combined with a light Pacific detailed to give an NP look, and you have a rather attractive train.

From what I've read, I think the early Mainstreeter (1952-mid/late 50s) used a lot of heavyweight equipment, especially coaches (the coach is a stand in for NP prototype- some are sort of close, others substantially different, although generally paired window, at least). Also heavyweight sleepers.  The prototype sleepers with the numbers in the current 5 car set were 10-1-1 cars rather than the 10-1-2 modeled by MT, but closer than any other currently available RTR model.  The MT baggage mail is very close ( http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1939857 and here is the prototype baggage 1513- http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=759463 which is not too far off the Erie baggage modeled by MT.  The diner isn't close to any of the photos I found on Jerry's photo site, but I don't claim to be an expert on NP.

:|    As usual Micro Trains refuses to believe that Union Pacific Cabooses have brown roofs. The current release otherwise looks quite nice with red painted side grabs. Will they ever do a yellow caboose with a brown roof? I do not think so.  :| Nate Goodman. (Nato).

I can’t believe how hard it is to find a viable UP caboose for the diesel era.

Are the UP cabooses from Intermountain/Centralia not "viable", or are they just hard to find?

The photos we have of the 3200's that show some of them with yellow roofs...per the Morning Sun book on UP.  If theres something unique about it please let me know so I can put it in the files.  I have a number of cabeese in the 3200 range with what look to be yellow...no sign of redish brown on the edges or silver.  Any info I can get that I can use going forward will be a big help.
Thanks

Take all this with a grain of salt (UP is outside my wheelhouse) but from a quick search online it seems like there is some truth to the yellow roofs...

Most of the photos online showing CA-1 with red roofs show them after being renumbered to the 25000 series.

Perhaps Don Strack and James Ehernberger's caboose book has more accurate information.

While I love the Morning Sun books they are full of inaccuracies. A good start for research but definitely not the final word.

I would love to have one or two, but finding them is near impossible.  The few times I have run across them they were priced at an absurd amount.
