Week three: after soldering the rail joints, Matisse works on his masterful track painting skills.

Oh man I love it. The layout is even equipped with the good old terminal track, total retro with a new age flair. Two thumbs up  :D

I get the feeling that DKS is establishing a model railroading commune there in the woods of New Jersey...  Going there must be like going to the Himalayas to see the Maharishi.  The beards notwithstanding!

The mantra is:

Vintage Track
Vintage Trains

Now say it with me...  Ohmmmmm! :ashat:

You forgot that in order for it to be true NJ retro it needs the full Blue Comet set to occupy 3/4s of the trackwork.

DKS isn’t in the time out corner... he’s doing his best imitation of Tom Sawyer painting the fence just waiting on one of us to fall for it.

Well, for it's first public display, Palmerton seemed to be a big hit! Many people commented on how I fit so much into a small space, and I think I enlightened some on the fact that you don't need a lot of space to have a functioning layout. Among the commentators, one person tried to outright buy the layout, to which I described how I made it and that the track plan was online, and another interviewed me for his Youtube channel (I don't film or answer questions well). All in all, the first day of the show was very fun for me; it's encouraging me to want to work on the layout even more. Some concerning things, though, are that the layout is a wee-bit awkward to get in and out of my truck, but I can solve that issue by getting a cap for the bed. The second is that with no scenery, show-goers seemed to want to use it as a table; this doesn't include the RailWire crowd whom we instructed to put things on it, but rather random show goers who wanted something to lean on. It irked me a bit, so maybe scenery will deter them (ha ha ha).

And about the NJ Zinc diesels, while NJ Zink is not represented on the layout, I have been keeping my eyes peeled for a Key S2 (of course it has to be brass! It's more fun!), but the vendors didn't seem to have any (but I did get some other pieces). Eventually I will pick one up and hopefully give Palmerton some more local flavor.
