Yeah, they know (or should know) it’s wrong, but they want the train out of town. It’s a struggle. The list of “exempt” trains by division is long. Being exempt just means the train can run all f*ed up, but at 45mph.

As for the yard crews building the train, they’re just following a switch list. No deep thought required. It’s absolutely up to the outbound crew to know their sh-t, review the paperwork, job brief, check it three times etc. Everyone (road crews) know they’re the only ones who’ll hang when sh-t goes sideways. Goes with the territory.

I'm with Ben - I'd also like to see Page 2.

I notice that Marias Pass apparently isn't considered a "problem", unlike Stevens and Stampede Passes.

Ah so page 2 was just a repeat of part of page 1 at lower tonnage.  Okay.  Still interesting.

Does that (pg 1) rule about spine cars impinge on the  length of pig trains?   Does an intermodal typically weigh as much as 5500 tons?

I find it fascinating that Raton is included on these charts. When was the last time a mainline freight was operated over Raton? I guess they have to include it for the non-zero chance traffic could be rerouted, but I would be truly surprised if there were more than a dozen BNSF guys qualified for the line in the first place.

Corporate railroading, gotta love it.  :facepalm:

Another derailment at Horseshoe curve this afternoon.
Three empty centerbeam flats on the head end of a train come off the rails.  :facepalm:

You think they would learn. Sure it's a mostly empty train but some cars shouldn't be at the head end when empty.

Edit: less than 35 tons, apparently.  So does NS not have similar rules to BNSF?
