If GE or anyone wants to make really smart bulbs then integrate that procedure and anything else the boffins dream up, with Alexa, or whatever is controlling your smart home this week, to do so on a voice command and/or into the controlling app on your smart phone.
Rant over. 😀
Well, in their defense, if a bulb needs a hard reset (it is likely an entire computer in there, running some flavor of Linux - which is amazing on its own), it will not respond to any external commands (from Alexa or any other source), so drastic measures are needed to revive it. Just like a DCC decoder that needs a hard reset because it is unresponsive or behaving badly. And the reset procedure had to be something that will hopefully never occur in a real life applications, thus the crazy sequence. Still, it is very tedious and nutty.
